Pretty easy and not very expensive to get more power out of the fiat engine, my Abarth's HP & TQ are both over 200, and the Miata has a much better chassis to work with.

Why do the rendered 3D prototype designs always end up looking so much better than what ends up being produced?

This seems true of all cars!

Did they need to call it a 124 :( ? I'm with the camp who think it is an abomination. Agree with Mayor's comments completely, every inch screams budget limitation compromise. Difficult to recreate beguiling.

That's quite a stretch! There are many cars with those type line elements. Example: a Datsun 240Z.

I like it I could never warm up to the Miata this new fiat gives it a little more of an old MGB look which was a fun little car .. The Abarth version may be a cool little car

It does look alot better, but still not great. Miata still looks better from most angles.

you know if they put the 237 hp motor in, then it would outperform the 4c.

I saw the new Fiat at the Dallas Auto Show last weekend. It looks tight inside, but that is the norm these days for this type of vehicle. Overall, I liked it a lot, I could see the style motif's that linked it to the original 124. I hope they sell a lot of them.

    Cheers Fiat, well done.

Has already been stated that the regular 124 Spider will have the 160hp engine out of the Abarth 500. The Abarth Spider US version will have more.

The white abarth should have a green hood and trunk with red mirror caps...Italia!

No way. A front engine heavier car with a longer wheelbase and a less wide stance will never outperform a 4c.

To me it's really kinda sad looking. It's like they couldn't quite make it as nice as the original because they were stuck with the Miata underneath.

Retro isn't always good. The Fiat 124 is one example of why.

The 4c is NOT a retro car. It doesn't really look like a Stradale but it does pull some cues from the past of Alfa -- and that's a good thing because it bridges the old and new together over a long period of being lost in the wilderness.

The 4c looks modern. This Fiat 124 looks like a body kit car.

No it should have good looks, what a mess. It looks like they dropped a Miata off at a tuner shop and demanded a fiat spider in three days.

Fiat has destroyed a iconic symbol

IMO this is now the norm as all the great design houses are no longer.....

When i first heard of the (at the time) Alfa / Mazda partnership i thought - finally Japanese reliability with Italian good looks.

    Wrong.

But frankly and slightly off topic - Italian good looks is a phrase i am not using often in this context. The new maserati and alfa giulia while not ugly just kind if join the herd (granturismo for example being a pretty car to look at in contrast - would have hoped for more beauty ala 8c, 4c etc).

Sorry but even Ferraris are often fugly these days.

i was at show preview last night and didn't make it over to the north hall for the fiat, Subaru exhibits. wanted to see the fiata too. oh well

there were 2 Miata concepts that I did see though and they were fantastic. one was barchatta style without windshield which I loved and another with a bikini top like from a boxster spyder that was nice too.

Miata has a lot of potential as basis for custom jobs

I liked the Miata Barchetta racer also wich was at Chicago a month ago. The Abarth 124 black panels are like lipstick on a pig. Not a good effort by the Italians.

I took the walk over to the north hall to see the fiata and you didn't miss much. The regular 124 was ok but not gorgeous and per the rep the abarth has no power upgrade and was uglier...FAIL. I liked the 500 Abarth with the gulf racing blue....did like the Guilia too.
