These hyper-expensive exotics don't do it for me. First, I don't have the $$$$ to afford one and risk it on track. Second, the price/performance ratio is skewed - if I am going to spend this kind of money, I'd have a dedicated track car and the sports racers from Radical, Wolf, Ligier, Riley and others are way faster than these cars for way less money. Third, the only way they hold value is if you don't drive them. I've been shopping Ford GTs lately and not only are they expensive (near $300K up for most), the examples for sale are such low mileage ( some delivery miles) that they can't be driven. And some of the cars with miles look terrible. But it sure looks like every singe 918, P1 and LaFa sold and are only available at a premium second hand, so maybe I should have gotten one and get in line for this one and just plan on selling.
Rumors are saying that it's going to have a curb weight of about 2700-2900lbs and pack about 700hp Update: 2016 Ford GT Supercar will have 620HP, weigh 2,750 lbs and cost $397,500 ? the best power-to-weight-ratio of any car, ever | HorsepowerKings.com Latest Ford GT Info: Big-Time Computing Chops, Maybe 700+hp ?*News ?*Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog
They could sell them at $500k and flippers would still make big profits on resales" Btw the racer is insane. Will be fun competimg against napolis racer
Think Jim's car has big advantage over the GT cus it's a dedicated scratch built race car + Jim's got the tub Image Unavailable, Please Login
Are they going to race in LMP1 (or what ever the top prototype class is called)? A "class" win will do little to drive sales (and dealer gouging) that has been alluded to, only the overall win matters in such things (adjusted market value, etc). Jimmy
They won't have trouble selling them at 400k. Matter of fact most dealers will be "Market adjusting" them up between $75k and $200k OVER MSRP. None are sold yet as no dealer has been assigned an allocation. 3500 US dealers. Fewer than 1,000 to be produced. 2 out of 3 dealers will never see a single car. I suspect these cars will quickly sell for $1M or more inside of the first year.
I had heard that Chip Gnassi will be racing in the GT class next year...they are getting out of LMP class..
The sad part is ford does not make 5k of these and sell them for 250K a piece, that way normal mortals might get some and play with them. I guess the tooling for a bigger run looms large in the beancounters mind, and ford gets the halo effect with a few hundred so why bother, pity.
I agree. The car is made by Multimatic for Ford. Still a Ford, but a shop of that size just can't put out massive numbers. Hopefully they invest so the next run can really be mass produced. But the new GT350R looks pretty insane...engine in particular. Have to give them credit for that thing.
Yea, I thought they looked a little bogus - something like an XBox game. I did like the prancing horse cameo at the end
Great news. The car does look nice in race trim. Now if it can only live up to the 1966 Ford GT MKII's history!!
