And, your were already paying a 6% to 7% sales tax upon purchase + ad valorem based on value, every year, for as long as you owned the car.

"Technically" isn't the law. It is either legal or not. I have seen hundreds of rides over 25 years old without any stock emission equipment and nothing was ever done about it. Just my observation and I am not a lawyer either.

Just a guess, but it isn't an issue probably because they are not tested to begin with. No need to worry about it unless the government made you lift the hood just for the hell of it. They would never, ever know otherwise.

You are correct that it would be a rare circumstance that would result in your getting caught. But it has happened to some people and it could happen to any of us. So why take the chance for what benefit?

I only was guessing why there are so many on the road with equipment removed. I wasn't recommending anything.

Now now Frank, you have to admit that Deal messed up. The advalorem sucked , but for those of us who horse trade cars, buy used, and go through a few cars every year or so, & also buy from a private party, the new tax is harsh. Its unintended consequences to appease someone's brother in law who has to be a dealer. Like most of his gang of idiots, there knee jerk lawmaking always has unintended consequences.
& I certainly pay my fair share and then some.
This law was rushed through, it had failed 3 times prior. he saw his chance & he took it. Now we have to deal with it.

So Frank, if this law is so Great, why are you and I, still having to pay ad valorum tax on our older cars, when we have paid MORE, Than enought , to cover the new law , over the past years ??!!

He didn't mess up. He knew exactly what he was doing. Follow the money: Deal and his family/mates own dealerships and scrap yards throughout N Georgia. Likewise look who his biggest contributers are. The Tea Party are just useful idiots for his agenda who wouldn't know the difference, math is hardly their strong suit:) All this law does is put more money in GA dealers hands and encourages more people to scrap cars. It will also encourage more folks to lease which dealers love. Nathan can collect a few favours when he leaves office and goes back to the scrap business..............................
