I just bought a 2002 gated 360 spider last week. It will be delivered on Thanksgiving and it will be in the 20's. Is it safe to operate the top in cold weather? Also I will store it in our heated shop, can I operate the top without the engine running. Or do I need to open the door, letting all the cold air in, start the car for a short period of time to put the top up and down.

Always have the engine running while operating the roof.
Congratulations. I love my gated 360 spider, it's a wonderful car.

Do not operate the top in less than 45 degrees or so as you risk cracking the plastic window.

I have run my top with the engine off but with the battery hooked up to a tender. I don’t think that’s something that anyone recommends but I’ve done it a few times with no issue. I did it mainly to move the top as I was working on various things on the car.

One consideration with a cold weather delivery is if the car has had the battery shut off. In that case, the car has to be at least 50F to properly start and configure the ECU settings. It's in the owner's manual somewhere.

Car was delivered on Thanksgiving, temp was 19 degrees. Car started right up, went into reverse easily and I backed it up slowly out of the trailer as the driver gave directions so as not to hit the fender intrusions. Drove it into our shop where the temp is 65 and shut it down. Today I pushed it next to the over head door, opening the door, started the car and put the top down then shut it off. I still got a lot of exhaust in the shop. It will be several months before I take my first drive, but it looks good.
