New Ghibli surprise - Heard at Auto Show

    Heard at the Miami Auto Show from 2 FM sales rep with whom I was discussing the new models.

    They both said that the biggest surprise may come from the Ghibli (the "baby" QP).

    Because it is actually not a "baby" QP, they said it will be close to or about the same size as the current QP. It will be smaller than the new 2013 QP but about the same as the current model. They also thought that the huge V8 will find its place in the Ghibli (option).

    Therefore, Maserati is not really building a smaller mid-size model that would not be worthy of a Maserati badge, it seems like they are building 2 real QPs, one like ours now (Ghibli) and a larger one (limousine to compete with 750 L, A8 L, MB S).

    I was not in favor of a model like the Ghibli before but now these reps have stirred my interest in this new model. Wait and see... (by the way they believe the Levante will be beautiful in the flesh and a success for Maserati).

    Much discussed here - but the Baby-QP is is totally unnecessary, IMHO! And name Ghibli for such a car is completely GaGa and clearly show how much the Big BOsses in Turin ignore the Maserati heritage! They have no clue....

    A four door over two ton car and they want to call it a Ghibli?

    Let's wait and see about.

    A very bad use of that name though.

    BTW, there is zero wrong with producing a smaller and even lightweight car. Just not a four door. Maserati has a long history of six cylinder smaller light weight cars.
    It's how it's executed that counts. Now everything they make needs to be a luxo-barge with a zillion options and too much electronics.

    If you're going to make a super powerful sedan call it the QP Veloce. It's not new but everyone will understand and over here it sounds sexy.

    I agree, the Ghibli name is not the best choice for this new sedan. But I guess the vast majority of its future buyers do not know anything about Maserati's heritage, therefore Maserati thinks it's not that important.

    QP Veloce, what a beautiful name!
