The Goldwing has been in a league of its own for touring, and I would imagine this will just raise the level again. A customer of mine, who has all of the money in the world, and has 10 - 15 touring bikes, said that the Goldwing was his favorite. Front double wishbone suspension?!?! On a bike?!?! Wow, leave it to Honda.
Even though I've averaged 42 mpg on my Wing....the reduction of 1.1 gal capacity on the new Wing is disappointing. Ive had my 2001 Wing since 2002, and its only cost me ~$500 in repairs (fork seals).
I'll go with either 2 wheels or 4, at least for now. Maybe something like that when I am too old and weak to hold a bike up waiting at a light.......
Its not about 2 or 3 wheels st all, Not even close. Its about a stance that can only be compared to formula 1. You have twice the grip up front which is only where you need it. I riden for 45 years I take this above all for the phenon experience. Unlike polaris, this has full caster and camber. Just beautiful
Honda of Russellville Arkansas has killer deals on 2018 Goldwings. $22.200 for the PDK without bags. Or I'm looking at a Donkervoort in Holland ... decisions decisions..
Just ordered a red DCT. Supposed to be in February. Passed on the BMW K1600 because of the age of the design. I'm sure they will try and out-Goldwing the Goldwing shortly as a response.
I have an Indian roadmaster and a Harley ultra limited and I'd bet the Honda will be a nicer bike. That engine looks awesome .
Personaly I think DCT is pointless. The whole thing about a bike is being out there and in touch with the machine. But then some people buy trikes, so there is a market. the new goldwing while undoubtably a comfortable touring bike did not feel like a barge when i sat on it. In fact the previous Gen goldwing rode, steered braked really nicely, and this one is suppsoed to be even better. One of these, a sportbike(if thats your thing) and or a naked retro would cover all the bases. With the goldwing I dont see where a sport tourer fits in, its already going to ride great.
Are you referring to this new Goldwing? If yes, that is not their 1st bike with a DCT.......it was available on the VFR before this new Goldwing, way back in 2010.... Image Unavailable, Please Login
I had a VFR in that same color too. The bike was a comfortable beast with power everywhere. The V4 was an amazing engine.
Had a vfr 800 back in the late 90s. To me it fell between two poles, wasn't really that comfortable or punchy for long distance, and lacked a lot when the twisties came up. The gear driven cams were a cool feature though. The later ones as above never quite hit, often Honda out techs and out thinks itself. The new NSX is a case in point and DCT on a sports bike is anotehr example. Maybe DCT will find acceptance and a home in the goldwing tourer though. Many full on sportbikes these days you can just shift at full tilt without worrying about the clutch or for that matter DCt cost complexity or weight.
The month after Police agencies make it a standard requirement. Like they did on ABS brakes. I have to hold down the barf when Harley talks about it's "technology" in their ads.
I looked and tried one out back when. Would have bought except for the dealer playing games. Walked out pissed and Honda was off the list until my Goldwing addicted buddy hooked me recently.
Do you take the syncros out of the gearbox ? You know... to enjoy the experience of a perfect shift more ?
Hell, I've been doing shiftless gear changes for decades. You just gotta slightly let up on the throttle and feel the gears. This includes downshifting. We dont need no stinkin clutch!
