I have purchased a 75 gt4 red/blk s/n 12016 from a friend who has owned since sept 76 purchased from Algar. It is original and came with a painted pin stripe from new. I would like the stripe removed but several body shops are reluctant. Do you
the paint could take a wet sand and buff which also could remove the stripe.

Old trick was to use oven cleaner on the stripe to remove it. If the body colora was cured properly and the strope was painted over it the oven cleaner will soften the stripe but not the body paint. Test in a hidden place to be sure. Lost

If the stripe is tape no big deal at all.

I suspect they are painted on...

You are going to have to find a Body Shop with large gonads.....to risk sanding and then rebuffing the paint without burn through...

I would leave them, many '77s did get some tasteful striping, it was "in period"...

Wet sanding and buffing out the stripe is not at all difficult but very time consuming as you will need to be terribly careful not to burn through the paint. Your bigger problem will come from paint fade and natural staining from the stripe to the paint below. I would think it is almost impossible to remove a stripe that has been on for over 35 years without being able to still see it when it is gone.

Congrats! Leave it original. Unless the stripe is hideous. Post a pic or two or ten.

Even if you remove the stripe, the outline will still remain, and possibly a color difference from fade. BTW S/N 12016 would be a '76, not a '75 per the de-facto reference (if not outdated) Ferrari Dino 208/308 GT4 Registry source which we use.
