This is my first Fcar. I’ve been in and around Ferraris probably since I bought my first 911 23 years ago. I’ve driven 360s, 458s, and 488s, and I’ve ridden in a SF90. I’ve always wanted a Ferrari but it always seemed out of my reach unless I bought an older model. I didn’t know as a younger man if I’d be able to afford a new 911, but that was 7 911s ago. I’m a scientist so eventually my salary caught up. (I saw my uncles brand new 911 S in 1970 and that was my motivation for my education from then on)

I was sorta pushed out of my comfort zone when my Chevy dealer begged to buy my 18 GT3. So I got a 23 Z06/Z07 plus cash. But although the motor in that car is brilliant the rest wasn’t.
So I studied the market last fall 296s were still out of reach. ( I could easily afford it but my wife doesn’t understand $400,000 cars ) so I settled on the Lamborghini Huracan Technica. But I although I loved that car I feel like in the back of my mind I settled. And I kept an eye on the market. I joined Fast Lane drive club and have access to several Ferraris to look at. I thought the 296s in our club were just gorgeous. As a college kid I saw Dino 246s in the back of Road and Track for $10,000. But they increased and starting a household costs money. But I thought the body of that car was beautiful. I see the 246 in this car. Another goal was to build a super performance Ford GT. There is Ford GT in this 296. I love LeMans and I remember the 250LM from the 60’s. It’s obvious the 250 is in the 296

So somehow I avoided divorce and found a 296 in my price range and pulled the trigger. It’s not here yet. This weekend will be like being 7 years old 3 days before Christmas. Sorry so long winded but I’ve lurked for 23 years and I love to stories of Ferrari owners achieving their life long dreams

I’ve got a late 22 296 GTB with carbon buckets and some interior carbon bits and I think it’s well optioned . I looked hard at some real low mile 23s and 24s but they’d be missing some options I wanted.

I looked hard forward to learning from the folks here

Thanks I appreciate it. Understanding wife may be up for a debate. It took two weeks to convince her to buy the Huracan. She went along screaming about the 296. She settled down now. So that’s good. I haven’t seen her place any calls. Also good! (Divorce lawyer?)

As for tips on the hybrid, my SA told me to drive the car. When not driving, keep it plugged in at all times. The battery needs things too do other than charge/discharge. Put some healthy miles on the car regularly to keep the battery and the hybrid system healthy. Other than that, drive it like you stole it since it's already broken in. Oh keep the revs under 4k when cold until warmed up.

Yes that’s the reason I decided to buy one with a few miles vs the many I saw sitting for a year with 300-600 miles. Salt lake has one with 350 miles they’ve had for almost 600 days

I too purchased a well optioned low mileage 2022 instead of a 23 or 24. I purchased a two year extended warranty for $6,800 (a bargain- IMO). So far I am thrilled. What a car!

I traded in my 2021 Roma for a 2025 296 GTB about 3 weeks ago. It was an unadvertised consignment car that I got very lucky to stumble upon. Got it at 47 miles, now a little over 300.

These cars have personalities. Yes, keep it on the charger overnight when you're at home. I did throw a check engine light on a cold morning, but it self resolved with a power cycle... I think it was emissions related. Still figuring out the HV battery drain rates in different modes and trying to make sure I have a few miles left on the HV battery before I park for a few hours at a car show. I haven't seen the gas motor kick on yet in hybrid mode, but I manually activated it when I saw the HV battery was nearly empty. Also, the gas tank is small and the v6 is thirsty.

I'm really surprised how much I like the electric drive. It's great for sneaking in and out of the garage in the morning without waking up the neighborhood. I'm also really surprised at how loud the turbo noises are - sounds like Darth Vader back there, in a good way. The experience has been excellent overall.

That’s fantastic! Good for you. I think I have 2 days left. I brought up to my wife that maybe now that I’m in the Ferrari family I’ll order one more before I give up sports cars

Another nice benefit of the e drive mode is to quiet the sounds of the engine if you must be discrete on a phone call with someone.

There are some AF GTB’s for sale for $120- $140K off sticker with very low mileage. I almost want to buy a second- and I cannot come up with a logical reason.

Yea right now I don’t know when that’s going to be. The Ferrari dealer told me they’ll pick up my trade then load my car up and bring up my car. I asked why not load up my car bring it up and pickup the trade. Porsche and Lamborghini have done that every time. Im about 450 miles away and the truck picked up my Lamborghini yesterday and no word on anything. Right now I’m just pissed. They wasted a trip because they have to inspect a 2024 Lamborghini with 1200 miles on it? Sounds like BS to me. I’d already have the car for two day if they’d used logic . Right now I’m just very frustrated and sour on the whole deal.

The car is worth it. The dealer is doing what dealers do. It’s never fun to be on the receiving end of someone else’s leverage.

I test drove an Asseto Fiorano and the ride was so bad that I decided I couldn't live with it and went for the normal GTB. I don't know if it was just that car (was new) or not. My GTB is super smooth just like my McLaren was. That or the lift are the only reasons not to buy one since they seem to be depreciating even more than the regular 296.

The 296 with bumpy rode pushed is magic carpet ride smooth. And there are some truly bad roads near me.

My roads in Florida are relatively smooth and flat. AF package is just great here. Don’t really need the lift as the car is not that low. In a city it would be different. I think the AF will ultimately be more desirable because of the sharper focus and upgraded CF parts and unique paint. The VS & XX cars are also more focused and less usable for all road driving and they are more desirable. The AF cars may end up being scarcer than the VS & XX cars. Time will tell as for now this is not the case.

Congrats. Welcome to the family. The 296 is way underrated, it's the best all around Ferrari you can buy at this moment in time. You'll enjoy it as we all do!!

Random question, do you find the gear shifts to be aggressive on up shifts while "getting on it", or would you say that it's "seamless" shifts like the Macs.
Maybe it's a mode selection that triggers this? Although to me the physical manettino only seems to change the suspension firmness
