The man asks for some hard numbers so here you go. I have owned a 355 GTS for ten years and do 1,000 to 1,500 miles year so costs should be reasonably representative. It is a fantastic car and puts a smile on my face every time I open the garage. I have it serviced at the main dealer. Specialist dealers are obviously cheaper. Costs average out at the following (I have converted from British pounds).

Annual service $3,800 (minor are slightly cheaper and major slightly more but overall averages around this figure) This includes those little costs that are so-called one-offs. The car always needs something on top of the usual service.
Cambelts (set aside $1000 each year for the $3,000 3 year change) = $1,000
    Tyres $600
    Insurance $1,050
    Tracker $350
Fuel for 1,250 miles per year $350

    Hope that helps.

THAT is what I needed to see. I will likely be saving up for a few to get a 355 because that is what I really want. I appreciate everyone's inputs here and the lack of flames for being new to this world of Ferrari's. I am 40 years old in DEC and have always wanted a Ferrari. Like other things in my life, I have researched them and then gone and done them...see www.mbracingonline.com - I have raced cars at Laguna Seca, Watkins Glen, and Mid-Ohio (I grew up watching my heroes there) and now it is time to buy a Ferrari to fulfill that dream. Without dreams what is life?

I will continue to read and ask questions as my quest continues, and obviously I will need to save up some serious money here, but so what. If I don't spend it on this it will be spent on something else frivolous. Don't worry guys, as I pointed out this will be after the kids college money is invested safely etc. I am not that much of an idiot.

I suppose many of you have more money than I so your opinions of me spending mine on this vary, but without cars like Ferrari's and other excellent things in life it wouldn't be nearly as fun.

thanks all and keep the opinions and recommendations coming

MB.....Welcome to the forum!! I am in the exact situation as you...sort of. I did not come into some money but same age come October and same choice for a car. Been going back and forth the last six monthes on 550,575 or 355. 355 has always been my first choice so I am going that way. It wont be a garage queen by any means, plan to drive it on weekends Late May to Early October depending on how fast the seasons change(CHICAGO). A really good site to check out for 355 service is Eugionos in Cali. Does incredible work on all models but has IMO right on pricing for all service requirements. Keep me informed on how you are doing becuae we are both in the same boat. Good Luck.
