interesting.. and its going to be like that the whole season. From the article "For example, by 2009, devices for energy recovery will be in place on the cars." How 'green' can a race car be?
Honda takes it to a political level. I am curious to see how this turns out and how much effect it will have on global awareness towards the environment. I must say, I like the initiative. PS. how will the driversuits look?
Ah.. the globe is clearer here: http://www.hondaracingf1.com/en/index.php?section=108 and: Via the website www.myearthdream.com, anyone who wishes, will have the opportunity to have their name on the car, make a pledge to make a lifestyle change to improve the environment and make a donation to an environmental charity. Under the concept of our car is your car, each name will form a tiny individual pixel which will help build the image of planet earth on the car. Each name will be visible on the website when you make the pledge or under a microscope on the car.
Hey.. I just realised Australia has a pretty good location in the left hand side pod I wonder if the dots coincide with the pledger's country.
I definitely applaud Honda for being bold and and taking the steps that they are on global awareness. Our environment is definitely changing and for them to do this is fantastic. Hats off to Honda ! ! ! Carol
Absolutely! P.S. I can't wait until some of those anti-environmentalist nutjobs in P&R get hold of this!
Sounds like they couldn't find a title sponsor (despite their "everyone's on board" comments). Still, it's not as ugly as the Renault livery.
I think Global Warming is junk science, personally, and the Wall Street Journal appears to agree with me. Al Gore and his chicken little act notwithstanding, it appears that real scientific evidence is that global temperature fluctuations are cyclical and that the natural production of carbon dioxides vastly, vastly outstrips that attributable to energy consumption. I am not ready to join the tin-foil hat crowd and wait for the end of the world just yet. That being said, I hate to see F1 turning politically correct. This is auto racing, for chrissake!
Not to get into a Politics and religion spat but in todays atmosphere there is more CO2 than has ever been recorded (polar ice samples) in the history of the world. Putting a "Green" message on the side of a 1 mpg F1 car is counter-productive. And I'd hate to be in charge of paint touch-up
Cool. It's an ugly paint job, but at least it's finally something new. You'll know the Hondas at a glance when looking at the field. I still think the coolest paint job a team could do is one single color with sponsor decals applied (painted) on it. KISS would make a team stand out more than any elaborate, eleventy-billion hour, sponsor laden paint job as those have become common place; they simply blend into the crowd nowadays.
I was thinking along the same lines--sort of like the Hollywood limousine liberal crowd--but then I thought that at least Honda has the opportunity to spread the message to millions, if not billions. Justifiable cost? I think of it like the animals in the zoo. Sucks for them, but their expense is to the benefit of those in the wild.
Bring back the tobacco sponsorship! Im gonna start a 40-a-day smoking habit because of this, simply out of principle
I don't either, unless we start a completely different thread on the topic. Just to point out, however, is the following I found on one ecological science website: Scientists also point out that nature produces far more greenhouse gases than we do. For example, when the Mount Pinatubo volcano erupted, within just a few hours it had thrown into the atmosphere 30 million tonnes of sulphur dioxide almost twice as much as all the factories, power plants and cars in the United States do in a whole year. Oceans emit 90 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas, every year. Decaying plants throw up another 90 billion tonnes, compared to just six billion tonnes a year from humans. What's more, 100 million years ago, there was six times as much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere as there is now, yet the temperature then was marginally cooler than it is today. My point is that there is a lot more information about the global warming "phenomena" out there than is being espoused by the tree-hugging fear-mongers.
Will Al Gore be present in the Honda pits? I can see all the Hollywood types showing up to hang out in the Honda pits because it will be cool..... Maybe Toyota should introduce a Prius F1 car; it would probably be faster than their current efforts.....
I don't think I read a reply to your question when I read the thread, so to answer it, the drivers and mechanics will be wearing regular attire covered in sponsor logos, as well as their helmets.
Their statement is actually incorrect. Which web site did you get that from? I'm curious to see how they came up with that.
