I took out my old interstate MPT-91 battery, and bought a new one, which is a new designed model. It has a breather vent opening on the side that is encapsulated and not easy to open. The parts dealer said if you open that vent hose you probably void the warranty, and the new designs don't need the vent hose.

Just want to make sure and ask people who have been in the same situation, is it okay to install the new mpt-91 without the vent hose?

    thanks!

Wouldn't it be better to ask tech service @ Interstate this question?

    Isn't the MTP-91 a lead acid battery?
I would recommend an AGM battery instead.
Then you won't need a vent.
Red or yellow Optima, Delco AGM, Mercedes AGM, etc.

Still getting to know my 360 Spider (2004) and just happen to be working on an issue around my battery. I was pleased to see that I have an a Interstate Battery (MTP-91/T6). Mine vent was not hooked up. I too wished to hook up the vent if there is/was one on the battery. I called the local IB store and they said they have a vent kit. I stopped by and picked one up and tried to apply it to my 360. It didn't fit, couldn't find the oval shaped vent port. Closer inspection revealed an open port on the side/top which is 90 degrees off from what the kit shows. Also it is a small round hole on one side and a white plastic plug on the opposite side. I pressurized it with my mouth and it was more than a blind hole. I called the customer service line and spoke with a nice lady who asked what shape the hole was and she is sending the kit for the round hole. Yes she confirmed that this a vent hole and that one vent hole will vent all the cells. I installed a temporary vent until I get the one from IB in the near future. Attached is a photo of the oval hole vent kit.

I'm also in the process of researching for a batter for my vehicle. I wonder why some owners prefer lead Interstate over AGM batteries or vice vera.

    Any ideas?

A lead-acid battery is half the price of AGM.

A Kia is 1/10 the price of a Ferrari.

The AMG...Odyssey 34R-PC1500T-A is the best replacement. And be sure to get a "fresh" battery...a serial number like…06GCS151250340 shows that the battery was manufactured on the 125th day of 2015.

I just replaced my battery with the proper AGM. With already seeing what a leaking battery in our cars can do, I am taking no chances. Why save $100 bucks by not buying the right battery?

This made my night, thank you!I never understood the logic of putting a cheap battery in our cars!

This is what Interstate officially recommend for our horses. I called them yesterday.

It's almost twice the price compared to the Interstate MPT-91 (lead).

Yes it sure is. But it also doesn't leak or wont leak in a crash. Well worth it in my opinion. And it seems to spin the engine a whole lot faster than my last battery.

Uh, did you read the question? The question was what is the advantage that would lead some people to buy a lead-acid battery like an Interstate over the AGM. I answered that the reason is price. Do you get the point now?

I have an Optima AGM in my car. Get over yourself.

Now that I understand the difference. I'll pay an additional $100 so I don't get my butt burned nn a crash.

It sounds unsettling to try to save $100 when it may cost a life.

Had to change mine a couple of weeks ago. This was what I could find quickly and easily on a Sunday afternoon:

Any modifications needed? This is AGM so it should be a good alternative.

Fit right in, terminals in correct positions. It is a little taller than the Interstate it replaced, so the retaining bar did not reach over the top corner, but it securely caught the little "ridge" just below it. It probably would have been best to take the battery back out, remove the J hooks and bend them so they would reach, but it seemed very secure and I was too lazy. I just made sure not to over tighten so as not to crack the shell. I will check it again in a few weeks to be sure it stays stable, but I don't see it going anywhere.

It wouldn't go anywhere. Mine is missing the J hooks and it's not going anywhere.

The only issue I can think of is on a collision that you want the battery securely in place to prevent any sparks from the terminals being when thrown around because the battery is not secure.

Mine is on order (j hooks). I would recommend modifying anything that holds the battery to make sure that it is well secured from movement in case of a collision.

I don't think any mods are required to switch to the a interstate MT7 AMG battery. Maybe plugging the OEM vent hose...LOL

Back to the OP's first concern. I was sent the small elbow which connects to the MTP-91 to 360 vent system or rubber hose.

Interstate’s website calls for the MT7-34R, specifically the “R” for the reversed positive and negative terminals for the cables to reach, instead of just the MT7-34.

The dealership where I bought my car (Cauley Ferrari) as well as the dealership that services my car (FoH) both recommend MT5-48/H6. The dimensions, cranking amps and reserve capacity of these two batteries are very close to each other, so why do two Ferrari dealerships prefer the MT5? The 34R is a “special order” configuration in the MT7 family, because of the reversed terminals. Conversely, within the MT5 family, the orientation of the posts are standard, as we need them in the Modena.

The MTP-48/H6 will work; however, the “drawback” being this is a lead-acid battery vs AGM battery. I’m not taking sides, but wasn’t the factory original battery a lead-acid Fiamm? If you’re stuck over the weekend and need to get on the road, an MTP-48/H6 will get you going, just be sure to attach the vent tube.

All three batteries are more than strong enough for the Modena, which requires 570 CCA, as compared to 800, 760, 730 CCA for these three Interstate batteries.
