I saw a Jag on the street today. Driven by a grey haired grandfather type. It's not a bad looking car and smaller than it appears in pictures. I couldn't hear the exhaust. It does not have the visual presence of the Cali though. I can't figure out of the tail lights are attractive or just fussy.
So Mayor Bob, how did you spec your Vette? Any idea when it will be delivered? Picking it up at the factory?
I have not spec'd it yet. I don't need to until the factory takes orders. The guess is that will be Nov or Dec for Convertibles. I've put a deposit down. Most likely it will be made in Feb but maybe March. Yes, I will pick it up at the factory and drive it home. For sure it will be a manual Z51 but I'm waiting to see the LA Auto show to pick the final colors. If you want a coupe, you should be ordering now. Production for the coupe will be most likely next week. They are still tweaking things. Dealers should get some cars in September.
Wow! That's about 2000 miles! If I got one it would be a Z51 manual coupe with magnetorheological shocks. But it would be redundant, and yet not. Crystal Red? Night Race Blue? Gotta love those color names.
Jags can burn too unfortunately... driver OK. Car, not so much. New Jaguar F-Type Burns and Turns Into a Blob of Molten Aluminum - Carscoops
My wife is thinking about a roadster, and initially loved the photos of the F-Type. After watching the drive on Top Gear and then digging down into the car's size and specs, she drifting more towards an SL or even am E-Class Cab. Re the California, the Jaguar is smaller, lacks those back seats, has a ragtop that hides the looks, and other side-by-side differences that distinguish the two cars. Performance and connection to the road (in a good way) also differentiates them IMO. She said she knows the rear seats aren't useful in any of these cars, but she wants that space for her stuff instead of having to toss things in the trunk/boot. I would say that Aston Martin should get busy in their work to adapt AMG tech into their cars or the F-Type will take away significant numbers who would otherwise buy the Vantage roadster. IF AM would put their V-12 into a Vantage drop top (which they do in Europe, but not in the US) and install a DCT instead of that clunky one they use now, their sales could pick up appreciably. They have, though, announced they will use an AMG motor for their next-gen V8's, so change is on the horizon. The F-Type and Vantage have very similar specs, although the AM feels heavier and has the unique AM panache. The significant cost difference could sway a lot of people, though. Bob H
I saw the new F-Type, recently, at a Jag dealer. Sat in it, fired it up, explored its different features. Honestly, I thought it was gorgeous car! And whether this is telling or not, there were a couple of guys in there...teenagers...that seemed to know everything about cars, who were standing there in awe and taking photos of it for probably 30 minutes. The point there being that it had obviously captured the imagination of those young gear heads. Sure, it's not a Ferrari, it's not really even an exotic, but I would drive one with pride! Truly a beautiful car.
