Was looking through the New Jersey Motorsports Park website and came upon this bit of rulemaking.

I hadn't realized any state had established detailed rules governing racing. These rules raise a lot of questions - all of which might be answered by a careful reading of these regulations. For example, do these rules supersede FIA requirements? Is a violation of any of these rules negligence per se and actionable by a driver? And on and on.

Some of these rules are quite specific, for example:

"(a) No vehicles shall be operated in the paddock or staging areas at a speed in excess of five miles per hour."

There's an exception for the pits during races, but, this 5 mph limit simply isn't going to happen and will be impossible to enforce.

On first blush, all this seems like a really, really bad thing to me. Do other states have similar regulations? You have to wonder, based on its performance over the years, what makes the government think it's so smart ....

New York, I think, has a rule that minors cannot race unless they are emancipated.

Peter, hope all's well with you. Not going to NJ next weekend, look forward to hearing reports about the track. My Giulietta is finally ready, too late for Pittsburgh. Leaning heavily towards IMSA Lights for next year. See you soon, regards, Will

New Jersey is a natural prison with water on three sides. Don't be suprised if the State Police Road Nazis are out in force taking down license plate numbers as you enter the track. Cross the border to Pa. America starts there!

Guys, I cited the 5mph rule as a sort of silly example. The regulations cover - partially - a lot of aspects of racing. Another example:

"(a) All safety features such as hubrails, steel armco, tire
barriers, safer barriers, concrete walls, and fencing shall be
constructed and maintained so as to afford maximum protec-
    tion for spectators and participants."

Maximum protection? How do you even determine that?

My point was simply that these rules establish standards that may not in fact conform to the realities of racing.

Peter - the Glen ... cool and grippy Friday; hotter and still decent Saturday; floods Sunday. I had an amazingly successful weekend, if you like doing body work. Two races, two DNFs. One of those weekends that makes you start thinking about hobbies that involve no ... talent. ;)

This is right off the page. So I would say that FIA regs are fine, ect.

“Sanctioning organization” means a regional, national, or
international organization, which regularly organizes and
operates promotional and touring events, time trials, driving
schools, or lapping days. Such organizations have established
and accepted guidelines for the operation of these
    events.
