Hi all. I just saw these pictures on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=922&item=2277207695&rd=1&ssPageName=WD2V&tc=photo) and thought how fascinating they look. Says it's somewhere in New Jersey State..... Who has walked down this road lately ??!! Really capture an atmosphere, don't they.
I have been in that area recently... I used to go to the train station in Dover to hop the train to NYC. The area in those pictures is a lot more run down now then it was there... those are amazing pictures. It is a shame to see what the town has become. I have went and seen several concerts in the Baker theatre... which is now the Baker Ballroom. It is a shame too, cause that looks like it was a really cool place, and now it has more of a cheap wedding theme to it. Still a fun place for a concert though. Like I said, not a bad neighborhood, but not great either. Very cool to see. Craig
Upon looking closer at the auction, I noticed the seller is in Menlo Park, CA, that is ironic, because Edison, NJ is near Boonton and Dover, and is the location of Thomas Edison's Labs, called Menlo Park. Just some trivia, and strange coincidence for you. Craig
drove down it, with the windows up and no radio on. Not a good part of town, i guess thats what happens.
Glad you know it. I was searching on ebay for the Dover near where I live, 22 miles from France ! I saw these pictures and thought they were amazing - great detail. Never been there !
If you get a chance, look up a magazine called "Weird New Jersey" you will find lots of interesting things about our odd little state. Regards, Art S.
I agree. Weird NJ is a very good resource. You'd be amazed at the sheer breadth of oddities that our little state holds claim to. I have almost every issue and they're lots of fun to read. www.weirdnj.com
Jeff, if you like weird old New Jersey stuff, check out this site: http://www.midnightsociety.com/ Click on the ABANDONED icon on the left side of the screen for hours of creepy enjoyment. I've never been to New Jersey, but anybody who likes old long lost areas will enjoy their site.
I have every issue and the books. The tape I am still to check out. All may enjoy to know that there is a tv special by the people who write Weird NJ and now Weird US. It is on this Sunday night, Halloween, at 10pm on the History channel. Here is a link to it. http://www.historychannel.com/global/listings/series_showcase.jsp?EGrpType=Series&Id=11763354&NetwCode=THC Craig
