LOL, T33 is in no way downmarket, come on. As far as the T50 and DCT- "The T.50 “was never going to be a dual-clutch gearbox car” admits Murray. From the outset he’d had his mind made up that the car would feature a push-and-pull sequential manual box from Xtrac. “My everyday car is an Alpine A110, and it’s a beautiful little car, but it has a DCT gearbox, there’s no manual variant. I just leave it in automatic because a gearshift is such a non-event. It doesn’t involve you in any way, shape, or form. It’s like flipping an electric switch.” https://jalopnik.com/the-gordon-murray-automotive-t-50-is-the-only-hypercar-1844575691
Yup! Agreed, just mentioned Apple for the analog vs digital aspect of their watches. The Analog watches like the holy 3 use real gold, Apple tried going into this territory, once... Cheers
Let's all meet in the middle and see if Ferrari will give you an option to replace your paddles with a gated shifter - the only catch is you can't have a clutch
They did that back in 93 with the Valeo; it didn't catch on (which sort of still surprises me, when it was introduced I recall thinking it was pretty cool tech).
Of course it would be a newer version but I drove a VW bug that was was manual shift and no clutch pedal. To quote Eugene Levy, "If you think you hate it now, wait till you drive it"
Ferrari's point used to be F1 tech in their street sport cars, but now with the SUV I don't see any reason not to offer 3 pedals. Even if they have to reduce the HP I'm sure plenty of buyers' egos can take it. "Yeah, I've only got 650HP because I wanted 3 pedals." The new Lotus has hydraulic steering, a "dumb" suspension, and 3 pedals.
We all agree there is a segment that would like an 'old school' Ferrari. No debating your fact. I like em too! The question is does it make sense for Ferrari to 'remake' classic cars? 2,000 HP will be the new baseline soon enough. Does stick still make sense then? I personally say no with that much torque and power, it would no longer be a 'fun' experience. Drive one of the 30 599 sticks, and you'll understand what I'm saying. Also given ICE will be all but banned in 10 years, does the dev cost make sense? Yes, carbon-neutral fuels makes Ferrari exempt indefinitely, but that does nothing for instant torque and packaging. So, should Ferrari go into the future "looking back?" -Create lower powered cars, less tech, slower, and less complicated? Well; If I want a classic Ferrari with stick; I go out and buy a classic Ferrari with stick. There are plenty on the market today. (Quite reasonably priced vs say a 296 or SF90.) I rather buy an F40 right now, then place an order of an Icona of an F40 'recreation' with stick that I have to wait 3 years to get. Why buy a copy, when you can get the original now? *** What it all boils down to is projected whinging of a rapidly changing world that some folks are having a harder and harder time adjusting too. Guess what? It's only going to get faster - so strap in; good thing Ferrari's ticker is RACE.
I came here to mention this. In the latest T33 spider reveal GM confirmed they cancelled the manual. I’ll just stick around and observe the mental gymnastics of those saying “you don’t need it! You don’t know what you want!! Ferrari know what you want better than you do!!!”
That’s only because they received 100% manual take for the Coupe. Now they’re trying to force you to buy a paddle for the Spider. Wonder how that’s going to play out.
ROI ..... he invested MILLIONS into the paddlebox. I don't blame him. He thought his customers were Ferrari owners who don't even know how to work a manual. .
It was never intended to catch on. It was limited by Valeo from the start. Valeo approached Ferrari and said "we have these and we will give you "X" number for free as a long term test". It was not meant to test the market and it was never intended to make more. Valeo just wanted to get them on the road in the hands of the public to see if they worked and were reliable.
2,000HP in a street car doesn't make sense. It's beyond ridiculous and nothing but marketing hype. When sport bikes started pushing 200HP Cycle World did a test and determined that only 160ish HP was being used on the street. No different than the regular sport bikes at that time. And why do you assume that a 3 pedal car has to be a throwback or recreation? The current line would work with 3 pedals. The point of Doug's vid wasn't throw backs, but making maximum profit.
Had no idea about that; learn something every day. Any info as to how reliable the system turned out to be?
Uhhh what? The spider is only available as a manual, the completely scratched the auto. Here’s a snapshot of the technical specs directly from the GMA website: Image Unavailable, Please Login
Earlier you posted they cancelled the manual. Now you’re saying it only comes in manual. Which one is it?
