side impact should not be a problem
lowering the belt an inch or so is not even close to where the side impact beam resides in the door structure
one issue that does come up with a low belt is being able to drop the side glass entirely
most customers don't like it when there is glass sticking up above the belt
can't rest their arm on the door when they're driving :)

Yes my Espada suffers from that but then it's an incredibly low car so you can't have everything ...

BTW, I'm with Carmine on the portholes. I'm not as familiar with them being a styling feature of the Maserati's I've become familiar with over the years as I am with it being a Buick hallmark. Buicks used to be very well made classy cars. Used to be ...

These portholes are tacky to many Americans but I think we're stuck with them given a management who saw fit to repurpose the name of a classic svelte coup for a midget four door of no particular visual significance.

    agree.....I associate portholes with Buicks
I know Maserati used them on occasion, but they weren't part of their Brand Character consistantly over the years

full disclosure here...........I'm the guy that reintroduced them on the '06 Buick Lucerne :)
BUT I did insist that there actually be holes in the fenders to let hot air escape
no way I would have agreed to phony tack-ons :)

I'll say! He says that it won't necessarily ever be produced! It's merely a signal of where they are going. That's going to disappoint a lot of folks if it turns out to be the case.

I suspect not though. The response has been so great.

They also confirmed that the A6GCS/54 was an inspiration. That's a deceptively compact car in person.

Love the rear 3/4 view-the hot rod style smoothed interior doesn't excite me-it lacks interest

If they make something like this I bet that part changes. I agree though the current very, very busy interiors with so many details begins to look ... well too busy!

Simon: Go to the Maserati Life website. There is a lot about the Alfieri there. They are more focused on the modern cars.
