I have a friend who is looking to sell her late husbands 1974 GT4/2+2. The car is in flawless, garage kept condition, and has had recent $10,000 dealer service to keep it pristene. The car is one of only 2 sent to Germany that year for Power Convertable conversion. The car is Red, with a Perfect White leather interior.
The engine was updated in 1983 to a new V-12 Fuelie, and has 5,000 miles on it, and 24,000 total on the odometer. It has always been garage kept, and looks showroom fresh. The only defects seen/ minor scratch around the glove box lock/ the two clear frosted lenses in front have slight cracking. The car starts right up, and runs strong. A/C blows cold.New Michilens have 95% tread left.
I will ad pictures as soon as possible. I ASSUME the non-original engine will knock the value down, and I don't know the desirability of a factory Vert conversion.
Can you guys help give me a ballpark range? Jeff

I would guesstimate around $25-30,000. Depends on the quality of the convertible conversion, etc. Pictures would be great.

Which model Ferrari did the V12 come out of? Would love to see pictures of a V12 in a GT4.

Brian, the 365 is sometimes left off the GT4. When you think about it the two cars have about the same desigination. The 365 makes a big difference. It's like the Simpsons when Homer is in the back of the truck looking thru the small holes of the cow costume he is wearing and see laughter house, a moment latter (as he gets closer) he looks again and see the missing part of the name. He now looks and reads slaughter house! One letter can make a slight difference :).

Nice looking car, I've never seen a convertible conversion with such a low folded roof and that hard tonneau looks pretty cool. Do you have any pictures with the top up?

As to value, it's hard to say but the highest value will result if there is the documentation as to who did the engine swap, the convertible conversion and then of course the history of the car and its condition. If the recent $10,000 dealer service is supported by detailed docs (what did it cover?), and the tires are new then I could see this car in the $35K area. The non-standard engine is probably a slight deduction in value since the carbs tend to be more valued than the fuel injection but the offset is that if the engine truly does have only 5,000 miles on it since the rebuild (or I guess possibly new since it was installed in 1983) and has been maintained, I'd say it might balance out the deduction for not being standard. Of course, as for any Ferrari, especially a 35 year old one that has had major work in the engine replacement and convertible conversion, the value drops quickly if any of the claims don't prove out.

If you look in the photobucket pictures, you will see the German nameplate rivited to the fender well to the right of the Vin plate.
As for the engine, it was installed prior to the 1991 purchase date. It appears to be a crate engine, and not a rebuild.
As for the service 100 miles/1 year ago by Ferrari of La Habra:
    All new belts
    All new oil lines
    All brakes replaced
    All shocks replaced
    All fuel lines replaced
    New Clutch installed
    New lamps in dash
    New MSD electronic ignition
    Lo Jack added
    New Michelin tires
    New plugs
    Passed Ca Smog
    Battery disconnect added
    New Battery
    A/C repaired and serviced.

We are still combing thru the records, so stay tuned.

Beats me. Still doing research. The rear lights are date coded 1976.

The convertible conversion looks very nicely done indeed. The car does seem to be more 400 than 365, but still very nice though non-original.

Which raises the question of what is the title status? Clean? Not salvage for a car that was built up from a wreck?

Late 365 GT/4s have 400 style taillights. The one thing (besides the the vin tag) that gives away that it is a 365 is the knock offs.

By the way, is the original engine still around?

    Regards,

    Art S.

Unfortunately, it is long gone. Other than the maintenance files since 1991, the pictures show it all.

    Simon,

    Late 365 GT/4 2+2s had 400 style taillights.

I was unaware that Ferrari continued with splined hubs in Australia for the 400 series. As far as I knew, they switched over to lug nuts for the 400s everywhere.

    Regards,

    Art S.
