Just wanted to hello. I'll be spending more time lurking than posting since I dont own a F-car yet. Looking to purchase a 348 sometime in the near future and am just looking for information on the cars and was directed to this site. Working in Bellevue has been nice now that the weather is good. LOTS of F-cars running around.

Welcome and congrats on making a great choice! You will find more information here about what to look for in a car than possibly anywhere else. Learn to use the search feature and you will find more information than you probably want!!

Thanks for the welcome. I have already been searching around the site for alot of the tech. information that I was looking for.

From what I have found about picking up a used ferrari, generally you want one with a bit of milage on it for best reliability because the ones with low milage tend to be time bombs waiting to go off. NOT something I need, I already have a money pit sitting in the garage. If another one showed up the wife might put a stranglehold on the racing....cant have that! Any truth to the "more milage is better"?

sure thing, more milage CAN mean that the PO kept her up to date with service and such. Most of the time just sitting in the garage can dry out rubber and other such material in places like the fuel system, which can lead to premature cracking.

Ask around you will get a lot of great advice on here!

    PS. Welcome to the club!

I wouldnt say "welcome to the club" just yet. I am still more of a "Groupie" LOL!

I still have yet to even drive an F-car of any kind. A few of my clients own them but they dont exactly toss me the keys. Even though they know I spend alot of time on the track (Maybe thats why they dont!).

The racing forum here seems to revolve around the F1 and other professional series events. Doesnt anyone actually take thier car to the track and give feedback in the forum? I would like to find some feedback from people about the handling carachteristics of the cars. How the factory brakes handle repeated abuse, etc. etc. I plan on open tracking my car any chance I get if the other car isnt operational.

Welcome and I hope you find a great 348 to purchase!

You should consider joining the Ferrari Club of America.

We have LOTS of active members in our "Northwest Region" and there are many Club events/activities every month.

Ferrari ownership is NOT required to join.

I would need to do a little work to my "antique" F-car before takin her to the track! Oil pressure on hard turns worries me. Are you involved in the Historics at PIR?

    Welcome,
And do consider joining the Ferrari Club of America, we have a very active chapter here in Seattle. www.ferrariclub.com is our local website, with lot's more information.

Personally, I do not agree with the "more miles is good" statement....it is all about service history. Regardless of miles, if the services are performed on time, and parts replaced as recommended, the car will be a good runner. The "more miles" thing comes up, because a LOT of cars are "garage queens" that just sit and rot in a garage, and when you start them up and try to drive them, everything leaks and breaks. Higher mileage cars necessitate more service, so stuff tends to be well kept (but this is definitely NOT always the case/there are plenty of higher mileage cars that are neglected too).

I havent been to the historic races at pacific for a couple years. I had really wanted to attend this year but had family come in town unexpectedly. So the kibosh was put on going this year. As much as I would love to run my car at the historics races I cant. Unless there is something I have missed and they are allowing late model cars to run now.

I will be at the ALMS event in Portland working in one of the World Challenge crews. I am hoping to get a little "stick time" while I am there.

Join the club (FCA) and your chances of getting someone to throw you the keys are a lot better! If for no other reason than just the law of averages!!

It has been known to happen on a few occasions. I watched one generous person give up the keys to his 360CS and it seems to me I saw a stranger driving a certain 612 around the track Saturday (also saw the same car doing a burnout on Sunday :) )

In the mean time buy Mike's car, doesn't seem like you could go wrong with it!

If you ever get to the West side of the Sound and want to check out an old, slow, beat-up 308, let me know.

Good to hear from another future Ferrari owner. If it's a 348 you want you definately can't go wrong with $$$=SPEED's (mike's) 348ts. I've personally seen it myself and its sweet. "Black and beautiful" as they say. Maint. records should speek for themselve's. Good luck in your search. Not coming to PIR for the Historic Races since you missed the ones at Pacific? This weekend ya know? Although the weather isn't cooperating much. :(

    Cheers

    Kurt

I will be in Portland for the ALMS event at the end of the month. REALLY looking forward to it. I'll be working in the LG Motorsports pit crew as asst. crew cheif, AKA glorified tire swapper. I was hoping to have my new motor put in my race car by the event so I could run a few parade laps but wasnt able to get it up here from texas in time.
