Thinking about making the switch from my 996 Turbo S Cab to a 458. Found the perfect color combo thats doesn't seem to be as common as red and tan. What are the odds it will be there in a couple months when I'm ready to pull the trigger? Do they fly off the shelves?? probably shouldn't have started looking until I was ready but I've been bit hard by the Fbug!

They don’t fly off the shelves but if the car is what you are looking for I would move on it. What you like about the car will be likely the same attributes and reasons that another buyer is looking for. I moved from a 911 turbo to the 488, no regrets whatsoever. Other than I should have done it sooner.

You may have heard the saying ...

The car you are going to think about tonight is the car someone though about last night ....

Meaning there MAY be a buyer just like you whose time is coming up...

If you can , find a way to make it happen!

    Its worth it!

Market is down. Buyers have the upper hand right now. My advice would be make a low offer and get it sooner but cheap as possible.

I've had some blue 458s saved on cars.com for over 5 mos... Silver and black move quicker.

There's always another "best deal I've ever seen" and another "no other car like this" car.

They don’t usually sell fast, stock market is shaky, and winter is almost here.

That said, there could be 1 other guy thinking the same as you that pulls the trigger tomorrow. You never know.
But if I was a betting man, I’d say you have some time.

I already had a 456M and a 308 GTSi when my unicorn, a yellow 360 sunroof/stick, appeared at an inopportune moment. I moved heaven and earth to land it. No regrets. I will keep this car until I die.

If you're in love with the car, get out there and get it.

Every time I have been interested in a car but waited it was gone and I had to start over. Seems like I am the good luck charm for dealers on a car sitting. If I show interest it sells very quick so I wont look at this one.

If it’s exactly what you want don’t waste time farting around with it. A couple of months either way or 5-10 k more shouldn’t matter if it’s the right car. Keep in mind this is just my humble opinion. Best , Kirk.

Agreed, most bizarre thing i ever saw was a friend of mine was negotiating on a $130K car and he and the seller were $500 apart. My friend “drew a line in the sand” and the seller sold it to someone else. Really? If it is a car you want and the price is reasonable go for it. By the way, the business will sell and you will be fine. :)

I have had a great deal of experience buying cars and though I go about purchasing very differently (sonicsound another forum member watched me at the Porsche dealer on Saturday, that deal did not happen). I do not have any emotional attachment (like I'm buying pair of socks), and I found another 991 the next day I like better, and if this car sells, there may be another (or the same car for sale again) you like even better. Ferrari (or Lamborghini, Mclaren etc.) ownership is not for everyone and in the dream vs the reality situation, the dream for many is a lot better. I would have probably advised waiting till you were ready, though getting an idea of where the market is at is always a wise move. The only other thing I would suggest is, buy the best car you can, not the best deal. It will make your ownership experience much better. Good luck

Thanks for all the replies. The education process has been fun as I've stepped up my search. Seems there are plenty of cars to choose from. Often surprised at how many owners there have been in such a short period. How reputable are all these exotic car dealers? Tough to find many private party sales. Most of the ones I'm interested in are at Ferrari dealers. How important is a PPI if the car is at a dealership?

I have known the people at Algar over 20 years bought a lot of cars from them (sold them a few as well), and helped others buy cars from them. If I can be of any assistance, let me know. I trust them more than any other car dealer I have dealt with, and coming from a guy (who has only trusted one person in his entire life)who has owned 461 cars, that says a lot.

I always advocate pulling the trigger sooner than later and buying the car you like. But that's because I am one who waited too long.

The OP clearly said he's not ready for what seem like very good reasons, so in this case I'd say wait. Unless the spec you found is really unusual, you will find one close, the same or maybe better when you are ready. It's not like these things come up for sale once in a generation, there are always many for sale at any given time and in most color combos.
