G,day from Australia everyone, thank you for accepting me to the forum.

I have just purchased my first Ferrari, a 1986 Mondial 3.2. Question to forum members is about the time or kms to change the Timing Belts. The car has done 117k kms and the last belt replacement was done at 114k kms in October 2017.

I have heard that the belts require changing every 3 - 4 years even though minimal kms may be travelled.

In the owners manual, belt inspection for wear and condition is every 24k kms with the belt replacement at every 84k kms.

Why is there a need to replace every 3 - 4 years when the manual states otherwise?

There is lots of information (and controversy) in the 308/328 forums regarding timing belt replacement intervals. Search there for plenty of info.

    Jackpot !

Official guidance was updated in 2004 'For your information, all 8-cylinder Ferrari models, independent of the Model Year, must
have the timing belts replaced every 30,000 miles or every 3 years, whichever comes first.'

As noted above enjoy the controversy....

FYI the next most asked question could well be about second gear

Keeping it simple I always went by the 5 years or 30,000 mile interval. Doesn’t mean that on the day your belts are 5 years old you need to park the car but plan around that interval.
