    No machined stacks...that's disappointing.

More 1/12th scale Hiro 312PB photos, with bodywork... Other than the stacks not being machined it looks very good. Could use more photoetch for the alloy panels, something this car has a lot of. They missed a chance to really go crazy!!

Yes Tom, it does look nice. I agree that they missed a good chance to go crazy with photo etch; instead they went crazy (again) with an extensive amount of white metal.

Cleaned up properly and painted with a nice fine aluminum I think the rockers should come off nicely. It's all about keeping the kit cost down.

At that price point, I don't think adding a few sheets of photoetch would matter.

Either way it isn't a very impressive looking car under the skin, it has clunky detail compared to a lot of other race cars.

Here is a link from my friend in Japan. He makes a lot of detail parts and decals for race and sports cars in 1/24th scale. Very nice artwork. Interdecal is doing his newer decals. He did nice Cobra and Jaguar lightweight Cunningham wheels/decals and will do an Alfa GTAM set next.

One note, you would be better off using the Shelby Collectibles Cobra 289 1/24th scale diecast as a base. The AMT 1/25th kit is not as good, and it's 1/25th scale!!

do you think these parts would work with the Revell Cobra, or are they too small?

I should have them this week so I will check to see.

By the way, I now have the 1/12th Hiro Ferrari 312PB. Some nice parts and good detail but I was not happy to see no underside fiberglass structural body panel detail at all, just flat and smooth.

Here is the post with his address from a few pages back.

On the Ferrari 312PB Hiro in 1/12th, they really are rushing kits and making them to simple. The entire underside of the body panels are smooth. If you have ever seen a 312PB you know there is tubing and boxed fiberglass fabrication on the backside. Hiro really missed a lot of detail on this kit. Do they want to be a diecast kit maker or a detailed model kit maker?? The motor and gearbox look good and the chassis is good, but could have been better. You get less machined parts and detail in this kit for more money.

Perhaps you should send this to MFH. Not sure it has any weight in this forum. Complain to them from the customer perspective.

Here are photos of the Ferrari 312PB door and front bodywork. As you can see the real car has a lot of structural reinforcement built into it using box sections and tubing along with reinforcements around all openings. Hiro put none of that on their kit. Unless you plan on displaying the kit closed this is a problem. I expect this in a 1/18th diecast but not a high end 1/12th scale kit. The aircraft modelers get more detail in their 1/32nd scale kits!!

I guess ignorance is bliss :)
