MFH - Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B MM 1938. Well I am anxiously waiting to see photos of the actual body casting, and hope that it isn't exactly as shown in their art/drawings shown. The left side door and side interior opening is all wrong. The door shape and and overall left side cockpit area are different on the real cars, and so far in Hiro's artwork, they have made the left and right sides identical which they should not be. This can be corrected, but at the price this kit will be selling for, that's the type of stupid mistake - blunder that should not be there. Well... fingers crossed - hope the kit body is correct; we will know soon.
Please elaborate your critique, given that only the left side image has been loaded to the MFH site? You have access to the right side rendering or am I missing something? Not defending MFH, but rather harsh based on MFH typical simplified packaging drawing. A head-on view of the Ralph Lauren car shows the two crowns defining the top of the cockpit as essentially symmetrical. Much as like the MM 8C 2900B, I may wait and hope that they have the core framework to model one of the 8c 2900 Berlinettas, the Touring masterpiece. I've seen all but one in person; I made the trip to Paris Retromobile in 2019 just to see the one offered at Artcuriel.
I'll of course reserve final critique/judgement on this until after I see the actual kit body casting which might very well be correct, and I hope it is. The drawing may just be an oversight by the artist. Most graphic artists make this same door mistake with these cars. But as far as my comment is concerned... it was a 'heads up' note for anyone interested in this kit, which was based on past experience with MFH, and some major flaws in some of their kits with body shapes and other areas. I can see by looking at the MFH drawing that the Left side is wrong. I deal with body shapes all the time in my business, and I have researched these cars extensively, and personally spent a lot of private time with the '38 MM winner and Ralph Lauren's 8C. The door/side issue is also clearly shown in the book on all the 8C 2900B's by Simon Moore. Right side door was specifically cut lower to allow driver room to move his arm while steering. (At one time, in the early 1990s, my company CMA Models, Inc. was going to produce models of these car in 1:14 or 1:12 scale.)
Thank you for your explanation, I am aware of the door differences, given that I have all editions of Mr. Moore's Alfa Romeo works, and have I have seen the Ralph Lauren car several times, as well. While you may "deal with body shapes" in your business, it does not mean that the rest of us are unstudied, nor does it mean that your own work is beyond critique. No offense meant, but I simply suggest a somewhat less imperious approach.
I simply replied, explaining/answering your question: "Please elaborate your critique..." Yes agreed, not everyone is unstudied, but all too often those that are will ask or push, etc. Not knowing the person(s) is one of the problems with forums & the internet. Anyway, same here on my end, no offense meant. But... writing "imperious approach" is rather offensive.

Seats are all wrong. Cushions and framework are way off. They will need a lot of modification, and have to make new frame work to be historically accurate.

Nice to see these photos. Unfortunately, and as I suspected & previously mentioned...The left side door and side interior opening is all wrong. It's a mirror image of the right side which it should not be. I'm also not convinced that the angle of the the bottoms of rear fenders is good. Looks a little too severely angled. The seats are also wrong as are other little various details. BUT... overall it still looks pretty good, and I am still happy to get one of these as it is one of my favorite cars, and I can correct the flaws.
I think you are right about the angle of the fenders. Profil 24 1/24th model made the same mistake but even worse. Hiro did seem the get the central part of the body pretty well, but the door problem is strange along with the seat cushions. Overall I do like it. You could use those printed 19 inch wheels a few pages back for this as they are even better than the Hiro wheels in almost every detail.

Received the MFH Alfa Romeo 2900 MM 1938 today and it is very nice. The tires are very well done and they also did get everything on the decal sheet. The body other than the passenger side door and a few small issues is extremely nicely done. I think the rear trunk should have also been done in resin and the metal engine covers are heavy but have all the vents opened up. All vents on the body are opened up. Seats will need a little work but the frames are separate so not terrible. I am looking for better 1938 photos of the seats. This is a great model of a pre war dream sports race car!!! The wheels I will use are the printed 19 inch wheels I mentioned before. They are around $100.00 for a set of 4 and are better than the Hiro wires. Image Unavailable, Please Login
