By the way, I will give you a little hint about the Alfa Corse 1938 race cars, the Pirelli tires had yellow rings around them along with a small star also yellow. This photo is from Patrick's Minidelta website showing the wheel of his and Patrice's 1/8th 2.9 Lemans model. I also have a color photo of these tires on a Alfa Corse 1938 Alfa 2500 taken just after WWII with these yellow stripes on the tires.

To bad Hiro missed the writing on the spinner on their wonderful 2.9 MM kit. They get some amazing details and miss others. I think they need some assistance and should slow down their research a bit, but they do still do amazing work.

Thank you for the links to the P51 Mustang model - a superb model; it only needs a 1/18 scale real human, ready to fly! Very fine. A bit off-topic, the actual airplane Lope's Hope was restored by Aircorp Aviation in Minnesota. I saw an article about the restoration in an aviation magazine. Aviation Aircorp is a premier fighter restoration company that does superb work. I am fortunate to have visited that shop once some 4+ years ago - they were kindly helping me with printing for a small non-aviation, challenging graphics reproduction task. Amazing folks, a memorable few hours. At the time they were working on restoration of a P-47 Thunderbolt, building the fuselage in a special jig. They are still working on that plane! They also had just acquired from an old factory the biggest forging press machine you have ever seen - near 20 feet tall, must weigh 100 tons - they had to build a foundation for it; cut a hole in the roof to crane it into place! One needs the very deepest of pockets to do a WWII fighter restoration, so much has to be re-made from scratch due to fatigue, damage, sitting lost in a jungle for 70 years, etc. I was intrigued to see part of the process, in comparison to automobile restoration.

Have a look at their internet site, they share extensive progress photos of their projects: www.aircorpsaviation.com

I saw the real aircraft at the EAA Oshkosh event where it took first place. Aviation Aircorp is an amazing company. Back to car models. Sorry for going off topic.

No worries about off topic, it is refreshing to wander at times with other interesting stuff. How much repetitive Ferrari can one talk about? (Ha, just seeing the '0846' thread surface nauseates me.) Anyway, great that you have seen the real P51 Lope's Hope.

Maybe it's the angle on photos on their site but the wheels look too small, totally different to the 1/12 th version that look much better.

FPPM 1/24th Mercedes W196 French GP kit getting close. Hand laced wire wheels with Continental tires are done and ready for production. They look better than any W196 1/18th scale wires I have seen :p

Tom, A question if I may. I recall that you recommend purchasing MFH kits directly from Model Factory Hiro in Japan. They offer two payment options: PayPal or wire transfer. In your experience is one more efficient than the other when fees are taken into account? And do they do a good job with protective packaging. I have used a few of the dealers in the past, but have not tried direct. Thanks.

I use paypal with the paypal fees but bank transfers are cheaper but not as easy to do. They ship Fedex and the packages arrive as fast as they possibly can in Hiro's own style shipping boxes with are very nice. It still ends up being faster and less expensive than any dealer if you pre order. Pre ordering is the key.

Next Hiro. I think due to the red lettering it is a Ferrari or Alfa Romeo from the late 1960's or early 1970's. My guess is either a 312 F1, 312P, 512S, 512M or Alfa Romeo T33/3 1970 or 1971.
