New Mondial owner - engine light on

    I just bought a 1990 Mondial T, 18k miles, essentially one owner. Wanted a Ferrari I was not afraid to drive a lot after owning a couple that I kept as garage queens. Seller claimed my Mondial had an engine out belt change about 1 year and 200 miles ago, although the paperwork leaves me slightly suspicious. After 10 miles of fun driving, the 1-4 engine light has gone on. I ran the ECU test button, but I don’t know how to read the code that flashed on the light. Mechanic can check the car in a couple of weeks. Can I drive the car in the meantime, or should I just leave it? There is no smoke from exhaust, but there is a slight oil burn smell, which makes me think it may be a mixture issue. I was thinking of taking the plugs out to check them, but even if I do that, I guess the check engine light will still be on. Appreciate any thoughts.

    How to Befriend a 348/Mondial t ECUs:
    1. Strip Down the Trunk: Pop open the trunk and remove the felt covers facing the rear seats. This will expose the two mysterious ECUs (a.k.a. the car's twin brains). Each ECU represents one side of the engine.

    2. Ignition Ritual: Insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the “on” position.

    3. Button Press Extravaganza: Locate the magic button next to the ECU (there will be two). Press and hold it for a solid 5 seconds, then release. Voilà! The check engine light should now illuminate, indicating which ECU you’re communicating with.

    4. Flash Dance: Let go of the button and enjoy the pause before the long flash (2.5 seconds). This is the car’s way of saying, “Ready, set, go!” After this, the engine codes will start flashing at you like Morse code. Long flash means start and end of a code. Your are now fluent in blink-speak.

    5. Decipher the Blinks: Each number in the code is a half-second flash followed by a pause. It’s like a bizarre light show. For instance, if you see four flashes, pause, two flashes, pause, one flash, pause, and two flashes, you’ve got code 4212. Now you’re a certified car whisperer!

    6. Next Code, Please: To move on to the next code, wait for the long flash after the current code. Hold down the button during the long flash and release it during the pause. The check engine light will flash again, signaling the start of a new code.

    7. End of the Show: When you’ve pulled all the codes, the car will just keep giving you long flashes, saying, “That’s all, folks!”

    8. Erase the Evidence: To clear out the old codes and start fresh, wait for the ECU to give you nothing but long flashes. Then, push and hold the button for 10 seconds. The ECUs will sigh in relief as they forget all their old complaints. Congrats, you’ve just befriended your car’s ECUs!
    Now go forth, car tamer, and may your check engine light!

    @paulchua I got the engine codes this morning: 1211 Lambda regulation Additive value for self adaptation???? 1212 Lambda regulation multiplicative value… again ???? and 1121 RPM sensor (engine was off). 1211 and 1212 sound like rocket science to me…. can I drive the car while those errors are on?

    Hi!
    I've had this code before and it came down to the MAF. Easy way to diagnose if this is the problem. Swap them out (very easy to do on your own) and see if the engine light codes swap. If the lights switch to the other side, you know you have a bad MAF. They are no longer in production. You can get generic ones from China but they won't have the same AF map. So I suggest you send them here for refurbishment ($250) You have to clear the codes outfirst and then go on a drive to have them light up again. Here is a photo of the MAF
