In 2001 in Iraq, two American NAVY pilots - Butch Masters and Tom Craig - are ordered to bomb an abandoned plant. The order appears to be false. American experts get killed in the plant. A secret chemical device, called "Rainmaker", designed for oil fields destruction, gets stolen. Military court cannot prove pilot's intention, and gives them dishonorable discharge. After 7 years Craig is reach [sic] and famous. He manages a private pilot team, working for Top Gun and for movies. Masters is a "grease monkey" in a small airport. He still tries to investigate his old case, and dreams of his own pilot's team. In order to get a license to fly Russian jets, Masters goes to St.Petersburg... At the same time, Kurdish terrorist group plans to capture a part of Northern Iraq ... They plan to use "Rainmaker" to destroy oil fields... Terrorist's base is located in Northern Iran... NAVY intelligence offers Masters chance to "clean his name" by performing a secret ... mission ... Using unmarked planes, they have to bomb the base and destroy "Rainmaker". Doomed to death, betrayed by friends, left in Syrian desert, Masters and his team finds unexpected support from a side of "Russian Nights" jet fighter aerobatic group. Russians and Americans go to final battle side by side, and leave no chance to terrorists.

Hollywood is losing its creativity. This looks like it has plot elements from both Iron Eagle and Iron Eagle II, a tinge of Heartbreak Ridge, and a very loose dose of reality.

    (1) In Iron Eagle, the teenage kid (palyed by Jason Gedrick) who steals an F-16 to save his father who is shot down in the Middle East is named "Doug Masters". In Kerosene Cowboys, the main character is Butch Masters.

    (2) In Iron Eagle, Col. Chappy Sinclear (played by Louis Gossett, Jr) is a AFRES F-16 pilot who spends is free time working as a mechanic at a small airport. In Kerosene Cowboys, Butch Masters is a former pilot who works as a grease monkey at a small airport.

    (3) In Iron Eagle II, the main character is an AF pilot (Capt. Matt Cooper) who goes by the call sign "Cobra". In Kerosene Cowboys, the main character also has the call sign Cobra.

    (4) In Iron Eagle II, outcast USAF and Russian pilots team up to destroy a nuke facility in the Middle East. In Kerosene Cowboys, the Americans and Russians again join forces to destroy a major weapons facility.

    (5) In Iron Eagle II, "Cobra" falls for the female Russian pilot. No doubt in Kerosene Cowboys, the main character "Cobra" will fall for the "Anna Zhukova" character.

    (5) In Heartbreak Ridge, there is a character played by Tom Villard that goes by the name "Profile". In Kerosene Cowboys, J.C. Chasez (one of the N'Sync dudes) plays a character with the call sign "Profile". As luck would have it, Kerosene Cowboys is directed by that master of all cinema, Mario Van Peebles, who also happend to play a character in Heartbreak Ridge.

    (6) Both Iron Eagle and Iron Eagle II had hard rock sountracks. Based on the Kerosene Cowboys clip, it appears to have a hard rock soundtrack as well.

But, all is not lost...there appears to be a small attempt at reality. The MiG squadron that flies to train US pilots (VFC13 - the "Kerosene Cowboys") is probably very loosely based on the 4477th TES "Red Eagles". And, as luck would have it, the real Red Eagles happened to include two pilots named John Skidmore (who flew 175 missions in the MiG-21) and Robert Craig (who flew 355 missions in the MiG-21...and would'nt you know it, in Kerosene Cowboys, there are pilot characters with the last names of "Skidmore" and "Craig".
