Started molding and casting my own parts since I just can't stand the sticky parts anymore, its been driving me nuts, not to mention passengers getting the sticky stuff all over my seats.
Just got my first part done, which is the center vent housing. Actually the center vent has several parts, I just did the outside square housing part and will be doing the 2 middle vent parts this week, then I will have 1 complete brand new non sticky plastic replacement vent assembly. These wont melt and withstand up to 300 degree's or at least they did in my oven without deforming.
I was thinking about doing all the parts for the 348, but mold making is a little expensive for just making 1 single part, just curious how many people would be interest in getting some interior parts before I get upside down on molding costs. So far i was thinking about doing all 3 vents, the Center consol, the shifter area, and the ashtray. If you guys have any suggestion on other parts let me know.

I might be interested in buying some parts. To post a picture when you make a reply scroll down to 'manage attachments'. Then you browse to find the pictures (max resolution of jpeg's is 800x800). For every four pictures in the pop up window you need to hit the 'upload' button. And hit the 'upload' button once more before closing the attachments pop up. Then you will see a list of attached pictures in your regular reply to thread screen. What are you making the new parts out of???

I believe you need to be subscribed to post pictures? I can host them for you as I think what you are doing is very beneficial for the 348 Brotherhood. Just send me the pictures to [email protected] and I'll put them up for you... ;)

BT, I'm making the parts out a machinable polyurethane plastic. The process takes some time as it requires a vacuum box and a pressure chamber, so you cant do high volume. The plastic is UV protected and fire retardent. Its good up to 300+ degree's and its a Shore "D" 80 harness which tells us how hard the plastic is. Shore D-80 is the same strength as a computer monitor housing, so it shouldnt easily scratch. The plastic comes in clear or white, so pigment must be added for black color. Its, sandable, machinable, and paintable also, so you can add the clearcoat finish if you want it glossy. It's bondable with epoxy resin, so you can add the "carbon or Kevlor" look.

Jotec when I get the photo's made I will send them to you, thanks

Actually, that process in "clear" rather than painted black would make great 348 cam belt cover inspection caps.

The Ferrari 348 OEM inspection caps are opaque...so you have to physically crawl over your engine to unbolt them in order to view the condition of your timing belt (a real pain).

The OEM inspection caps are also as fragile and breakable as peanut brittle (cheap Italian plastic doesn't like engine heat)...making their removal even more problematic.

But if we had transparent, clear cam belt cover inspection caps that could withstand engine compartment temps...then that would be pretty slick.

Oh man, you know how to hurt a guy!

It's actually an old, old digital camera that I picked up new on eBay way back in 2001 (for $30)...but it's better than my camera phone.

Except that my camera phone is always with me; can't say the same about the bulky old Polaroid digital.

Although I've been doing similar for the Mondial, I'm using the web machine shops at www.frontpanelexpress.com and www.emachineshop.com as I work to replace the not very nice plastic pieces with aluminum, either anodized black or natural metal. I'm trying to get a group buy in the nearby Mondial center console thread.

With each of these, you can down load a pretty easy to figure out CAD program and design your own part and it even prices out individual and batch lot prices.

The Mondial has a very flimsy plastic center switch panel that I am replicating in either black anodized or natural hefty aluminum (matching the shift gate). Here's the CAD rendering with pricing at about $70 apiece or so. I'm also doing the plastic cassette holder, rear a/c panel and seat hinge cover pieces. I've also attached a CAD of the Mondial Central vent main body I am working on.

Hope this helps some of the 'brotherhood',

I think that's a great idea. I'm presuming that you found low-cost OEM round center vents (from some high volume car maker, no doubt) to fit into your aluminum Mondial center vent border, yes?

eMachineshop and the others are going to greatly reduce the cost of keeping classic exotics in top shape...because eventually lots of owners are going to get over the "keep it stock" stigma and instead go to higher quality, lower priced, robot-built-on-demand pieces (or frames that let cheaper parts fit into our cars).

The parts from frontpanelexpress.com arrived today and look pretty good. If I can learn to use the CAD program, anyone can. These aluminum pieces might be another option for your 348 sticky panels, as this anodized aluminum piece costs just a bit more than $70.
It even fits. Here's a picture of the anodized aluminum piece (L) next to the original plastic (R), and installed in the car.

The other option is to simply clean them up.
