    I never had that problem in the 110,000 miles I put on my last 77 308. You leave the carbs alone, they'll leave you alone. (Granted, I did have them cleaned out every 50,000 miles. If you drive in dust a lot, you might need to do that more frequently. But injection can have dust issues too).

    Urban legend. If tuned properly, they will stay that way for a long time. Frequenly the ignition needs service, but everyone assumes it's the carbs. It's not. Get rid of the points, make sure the carbs. are in good shape, tune them and you should be good for 1000's of miles.
