Hi folks - this is Tom (aka tdskip) from BaT. Just won the white ‘88 Coupe and wanted to stop by and say Thank You for the education and encouragement.

it is going to be a bit before the car gets down to me in SoCal but already have a roadtrip to San Francisco with my son lined up. He’ll have his learners permit at that point so I’m hoping to pull him into faithful.

Congrats and welcome to the forum. I too also have a non-red '88 coupé. The unusual white/brown color combo of your car is truly beautiful.

Thanks guys, excited to learn from you all.

I’ve been looking for some time now, super excited to have her join the fleet. I have a feeling the Merak might be annoyed at the new stablemate as I’ll probably use this more.

Can I still root for George Russell?

    Thanks Ron!

What is that you say, you are demanding a picture of the interior?

I usually just Lexol on leather seating, I’ll look through the past discussions here to see if that is a good idea with this interior.

Thank you - only took me 10 years of poking around here. Ha.

BTW - it has been fun being a new ambassador for the group here with friends on other forums that reached out after I bought the car, some people just don't realize how hands-on and friendly of a group you all are.

Your new 3.2 looks great -- looks like an honest car.

Post a pic of the Merak. That's a rare bird.

Congrats on the win Tom. I think you’re going to like the car. A buddy of mine has a Merak SS and he really likes my Mondial.

I also have a 16 year kiddo. Interestingly, she likes the AC 911s more than the Mondial. ;) However, every time we’re out in the Mondial, she’s amazed by how much attention and positive comments it gets. She recently started dating a guy that actually had a picture of our car as a screen-saver on his iPhone. He’d taken a picture of it a couple of years before. When she first saw the picture on his phone, she told him that it was her Dad’s car. He didn’t believe her at first. Kinda funny.

Anyway, welcome to the team. Hope you enjoy the car!

Thanks guys - your cars look great!

My Merak is a bit of a shed, it’s an honest but neglected honest to goodness +/- 30k car but the last owner let it go, parked it outside in LA sun and occasional rain storms. Going through now and dealing with all the deferred maintenance, but I love it. Super distinctive to drive and a very competent GT car.

Yellow picture is what it should look like (except as a ‘74 it has small bumpers) the grey picture is what looks like now. That kids keeps showing up at the house and expects me to buy him food and stuff...

Oh - and for our fellow Porsche people...and I hasten to add we did not need a tow.

Good morning! I’ve missed the window on adding a Bora to the fleet, well this may be the wrong reason to drive a Maserati it’s super handy to have the rear seat space to throw traveling bags into so they’re more accessible in the front trunk. I’d imagine that’s a plus just like the Mondial.

One of the things that’s really cool about cars of this vintage is that they, as you all already know, retain the individual sensibility of the nationalities that build them. I really enjoy that the car is all have their own distinct character in engineering sensibilities.

By the way I wanted to ask if the Mondial mafia here does any driving events or if there are other owners on the forum from Southern California?

Ferrari when the weather is nice (i.e., no rain) -- makes going to work something to look forward to. The 911 when there's a chance of rain, which isn't really fair to it, but Porsche did a much better job protecting their metal against corrosion.

Also, the Porsche for long distance road trips: seats and driving position are more comfortable, and it gets 30 mpg as opposed to the Mondi's dreadful 18. I did drive the Ferrari to Massachusetts from Chicago (and back) shortly after I got it, and it was glorious. But now with gas over $5 gal., it's used for shorter trips.

Fortunately I am a Carlos fan, he just seems like decent guy who has his ego in check and can really drive a car. Even though I do like George it’s really nice to see a much more broadly competitive season this year.
