Happy Holidays , I recently acquired an 86 328 GTS and Im very happy and its been a dream since I was able to ride in one in 1997 . Im a member of the Mondial chat group . There are a couple of things that needs to be addressed w/ my new to me 328 , but because I have a Mondial 3.2 and the share identical drivetrain and suspension components my mechanic & I wont have a hard time sorting it out . Love the 328 in black. Sweet looking machine! Your stable mate there is pretty cool as well and makes quite the pairing. Now that you have both, it would be interesting to hear your take on the driving experience between the two cars. How does each car make you feel behind the wheel? Do you get different reactions from People? Do You have a spouse and drive them together? Congrats on the purchase. Looks awesome!
Thanks for the nice words Frisky . Regarding the difference w/ regards to driving character although they share the same drivetrain & suspension , the 328 is more of a go kart , more responsive to inputs , more of a sports car . The Mondial is more of a GT , much smoother ride , more capable of absorbing bumps on the road but the steering changes is not a fast as the 328 .My Mondial has aftermarket exhaust ( Stebro ) and it’s louder than the Ansa equipped 328 . When you’re seated in the 328 it feels much smaller and has a lower headroom . The 328 attracts more attention than the Mondial probably due to its prettier shape . My wife has not driven any of my sports cars , even my old 89 930 which I sold recently .
Thanks for the descriptions. It makes sense the soft top would be sprung lighter. Damping rates must be different. Seems like a great opportunity for you and your wife to do something together. Go to cars and coffee in the two Ferrari’s if you can get her to partake. I am teaching my daughter how to drive stick over her break from college on my 87 BMW 325IS and work her way up to the Ferrari. Be fun running around town in the 1980’s train. My 325 is lowered and my wife bottomed it out on a train track, so she has been gun shy about taking it out again. The hobby is always more fun when you can share it. Regardless, your new duo is awesome!
Welcome to the 328 world. Never had a Mondial but have had three 328's including one from new in 1986. The weakest link in 328's are the electric items on the console -- treat them with love and respect. Be nice to your turn signal stalk. Otherwise, drive the hell out of it.
Nice rides! I currently have a black/tan '87 328GTS and owned a black Mondial 3.2 convertible a few years ago. I agree 100% with your comparison of the two cars. I enjoyed the Mondial but LOVE the 328. Enjoy!
+1 I did soldered al the contacts in the center console as the where starting to fail especially the 2 heater stacks also make sure you don’t have burn spots in your fuse box and connectors otherwise you got yourself a bulletproof Ferrari
Welcome in the 328 world @AUDIO RESEARCH I always curious about 328 and their owners far from the "usual markets", I mean Europe and North America. Your car look lke Euro spec but with cat, is it a Japanese original spec ? Do you know the story of that car ? Is there many 328-308 and Mondial in your area ? Congrats for your purchase, I still love my GTB but my I miss ex-Black GTS on sunny days ...
My car came from Japan and arrived in the Philippines last year . Dont kmow much about the cars history . I tested the car there is overheating . Suspension is tight , no rattles nor vibrations during high speed runs. Shifter is not notchy , clutch effort is a little heavier than my Mondial . In the Philippines we only have around around four 328’s . AFAIK my Mondial is the one in the Philippines . Before I purchased my 89 Porsche 930 the car that I was looking for was a 328 but during that time no one is selling . I did not regret selling my 930 and Im very happy w/ the 328 .
