    Hi Guys,

I sold my -04 6 speed stick Gallardo a few months ago, to fund a house restoration. I was happy with the Lambo, the looks and performance is great, but the 4WD and the super high gear ratio made it hard to use outside the track.

Anyway, the Swedish spring made me regret my decision, but I couldnt back out of the deal. So I started looking for either a Gallardo LP 560 or a Ferrari F430. Last weekend a 2007 F430 with 31 k miles landed in my lap, and I took it home yesterday. Please see crappy cell phone pic attached.

The car is originally silver with black leather, but is now professionally wrapped in white metallic. It is dirty (with my standards) but will be a very very nice car when I am done with it. I noticed a few tech problems too, which will be adressed later on.

It was sold new in Italy in October 2007 and brought to Sweden in 2012 with 20 k miles on it. I have the owner history and a lot of maintenance receipts, so it seems to be well taken care of.

So a few questions (general ones, I am sure there will be more tech questions later):

    1. The car is manufactured September 28, 2007. Would this make it a 2007 or 2008 model year?

    2. I have a Vehicle Identification Passport (VIP) showing build pics of the car. Does this come with every F430?

    3. I have driven a few F430:s, but this one seems louder than most. It has the original exhaust from what I can see, but are there different versions? I do not mind, just curious...

    Regards,

    Johan

Johan, That build date makes it an MY08. There should not be a door lock on the passenger door.

With regards the exhaust noise, check to see if it has aftermarket manifolds. They make a very nice improvement to the sound.

You may also check to see if the 2 vacuum lines are attached to the exhaust valves. One hose on each side coming from the rear of car to the complicated looking hosing on the exhaust. If not attached the car is running "open" exhaust all the time instead of only at wide open throttle. Easy to change back and costs nothing.

Have a look at the 2 exhaust valves next to the exhaust box, they should both be shut on tick over and open above 3000 rpm , it then gets loud. If you look at these valves they have a lever and a crank. With the engine off these levers will be in the down position, you need to pull this up and when you let go it will spring shut, so you know it is not ticking over with 1 of these open, which will make it loud.

    Thanks Guys,

    Your answers are very appreciated!

Unfortunatley the car has a passenger door key lock. Does that mean 2007 MY?

The exhaust looks like a Tubi but the label on it says Ferrari and "Arvin Meritor". There is a button next to the LC button that says "Race" and open the valves. The sound is awesome!

Any thoughts on the VIP package?

VIP pack should have come with every 430 but some dealers forgot to pass it on and some original owners 'lost' it

No model year for Euro Ferraris. Just year of manufacture, so she is a 2007.

Thanks, then it is a 2007! It is truly a magnificent car, I am only sorry I had to leave for the US two days after driving it home!

I looked into it and apparently the manifolds was replaced. I dont know if it was replaced to original manifolds or aftermarket, though. Need to have a closer look.

    Johan
