Hello everyone. I'm a new owner of a 1997 f355 spider (gated manual). I previously owned a 488 spider but traded it for a Huracan Evo. Couldn't go without a Ferrari so I got a 355. Loving it so far but I have a couple of issues / questions.

    1. It has an aftermarket exhaust and sounds great. I'm finding that the best full exhaust note sound is at about 4k rpms, not necessarily at 6-8k rpms (although it does scream). Anyone else notice this?

    2. The A/C is not cold. Before I purchased the car I had a PPI done and they recharged the A/C but it still isn't working. Thoughts?

    3. The windshield wiper makes a loud clunking sound from within the frunk. Thoughts?

    Thanks!

    2. its not an a/c system so for new owners the most likely cause is that the system is off not on - the switch and the manual are very unclear - try setting the system to auto and select a lowish (below ambient) temperature then try on & off to see if you get a difference on an extended drive with the roof up in your case (spider)

My 348 blows the AC fuse easily which is in the frunk; can’t run at max AC for too long in mine. Look for it

I’d guess something is loose for the wipers. Maybe even just the washer fluid hose that’s clunking around. Just open it up and look.

sounds like you have a nice 355 if that’s all your problems!

Your exhaust bypass valve may be stuck closed or malfunctioning in some other way. Mine was and it didn’t scream, also was way down on power because of this.

The engine note, under full throttle, should change noticeably around 4K rpms when the bypass valve opens.

Post some pics of the car!

    1) What brand exhaust do you have? Are your Check Engine & Slow Down Lights working? i.e. when you turn on the ignition? If so, these lights should tell you if your exhaust bypass system is not working (on a test drive).

    2) Can you tell if your AC compressor clutch is engaging? You should be able to hear it if someone else turns it on. If your gas pressure is low, the clutch won't engage. Or you could have a faulty pressure switch. Who did the gas recharge? Was it a professional AC service centre? Did they add refrigerant by weight as per the Workshop Manual?

Is your STOP button inhibiting the AC compressor? Just confirm which switch position gives you the highest engine idle rpm.

There are two relays, a gas pressure switch and a fuse involved in clutch control. These are well-hidden in the frunk. Search the forum for "hidden fuse". The HVAC ECU can also inhibit your compressor (through normal control and via signal from the Engine ECU at full throttle). Do you have a Motronic 2.7 or 5.2 car? Do you have one Check Engine/Slow Down light or two?

If your blower fan is working, the fuse and one of the relays should be working. You can jumper the gas pressure switch without pulling the car into too many pieces if you know where to look. Fuse and relay access does require the disassembly of the frunk liner.

    3) ???

Thanks for all the info. Just to clarify, the exhaust does seem to be working. I'm just saying that it sounds better around 4k RPM than near redline.

Not sure how to access the wiper motor area so I can figure out the clunking noise. And, I'll have to do more testing on the AC.

#3 - there's a bracket above the windshield wiper arm on the driver's side (and probably another on the passenger side) under the frunk carpet. It's used to hold the carpet close to the firewall. Simply leaning on the carpet can easily bend it too far down. Remove the carpet and turn the wipers on and you'll see what I'm describing. Shut the wipers and bend it up by hand until it's clear.
