ok guys, i did post before with regards my engine queries which with the help of you guys has now been resolved

now i have some questions with regards my 3.0 1982 QV mondial

    1) how the bloody hell is ' MONDIAL' pronounced, as i have heard about 5 different ways

2)what fuel is best for these cars , i am guessing super unleaded and that a QV can run unleaded ok

    3) car occasionally holds back at about 6krpm in 4th and feels very flat some of the time, other times it revs to the limiter ,do they suffer common problems or is it just a quirk of a 25 year old italian car

    4) do these cars enjoy stretching there legs or am i crazy revving a 25 year old car to 7krpm in 3rd through 4th and into 5th

    5) why did i not buy one of these cars 15 years ago as every time she picks her skirt up and starts running the howl from behind me puts a grin on my face like a 16 year old getting his first blow job lol

6)are there any real common problems with these engines/cars that i should keep my eyes and ears out for ?

Pugo (who still cant sleep and has to keep going and looking at the car as i cant believe its mine )

Congrats on your purchase! In reply:

    1. I've heard many variations as well, but "mon-dee-all" is the way I was told, but hopefully someone else can clear this up.
    2. I run 93 octane unleaded.
    3. (not sure)
    4. Stretching is good, but I always make sure the car is up to temp all-around before any spirited runs.
    5. You'll always wonder why you didn't get a Ferrari sooner, but it's better than never!
    6. Always be alert and keep an eye on the gauges. Age of belts and waterpump should be considered as well.

"who still cant sleep and has to keep going and looking at the car as i cant believe its mine" -- this never stops, nor should it.

Enjoy your car in excellent health!

    1. Whatever everyone else says. Mon-dee-all is what I thought.

    2. I use premium Chevron with Techron. It's also not a bad idea to buy a bottle of Techron and add that per the instructions -- old car, old fuel injectors -- clean them up. For 10 cents a gallon more, it's a Ferrari and I don't want to hear any knocking.

    3. By 'flat', do you mean a lack of power? Keep in mind the Mondial QV isn't a powerhouse by modern performance car standards. If it's hesitating or stumbling, that's not normal -- lots of things to check, starting with pulling the plugs and taking a look.

    4. As posted, if she's properly warmed up it's fine. Most of the power is in the higher revs. The important thing, with all cars actually, is to avoid 'jerking' the drivetrain. Smooth acceleration, smooth clutch engagement/disengagement, etc.

    5. Everyone thinks Ferraris cost $100K a year to maintain, or lacks the imagination to consider older cars. Then everyone buys a new Boxster or BMW. Then everyone comes over to my house and begs for a ride.

    6. Definitely check the rubber fuel lines -- if those haven't been replaced by now, they could split and that's bad news. Also, not sure if the Mondial QV has this, but on my 328 there's a coolant hose that runs from the coolant overflow tank under the intake manifold -- it gets a lot of engine heat and deteriorates sooner than the others. Either way, hoses and clamps are cheap insurance on any old Ferrari.

Not a problem, but you've probably noticed the gearbox is reluctant when cold. Never force second gear. ;)

Hopefully you're acquainted with the timing belt change interval/service. There's a debate about how often, but no one debates that it's bad if the belt or associated bearings, etc., fail.

well i have decided to call it a mon-dee-al ......as for QV i gave up trying to pronounce that lol

    2) yes that sounds like a good idea i presume techron is an injector cleaner........i shall google in a mo

    3) at under 3krpm....if it was a 4 cyl i would have said its running on 3....but it does not smoke, revs clear and at over 4.5krpm it takes off and some times it is a little hesitant, i cannot see through its service history that its ever had a set of plug leads so may invest in those first

    4) to be totally honest i never drive her hard till its all warmed up, i never rev hard in 1st or 2nd only through the last 3 gears, however my down shifting is a little clumsy at the mo as the dog leg box is throwing what i have known for all these years as norm out the window....who decided to move all those gears to there lol

    5) i have spent my life playing with the uk's fast fords and delved into jaguar ownership, so old cars are a passion, just never owned one with a reputation to snap knicker elastic at 100 yards before lol

6)yes i shall be going through the car slowly as the weather brightens as its too cold to be working in my garage this time of the year, however after reading some of the threads on here i shall be going through the hoses asap...as insurance

    7) sort of, i am presuming every 3 years or 18,000 miles, and i shall be doing it all myself.......as i often tell others, dont be scared, just because its got a prancing horse on it or a leaping cat.....a 6mm bolt is still a 6mm bolt

many thanks for everybodies help with my introduction to this icon......everybody seems so friendly and helpful on this forum
