With the major service that I will be doing on my '79 US 308 in a couple weeks I have decided to part with my points and go with a more 'modern' setup. I do want to keep the stock look though. So I was immediately drawn to the pertronix setup that I have used previously with good results on older German cars.

The last couple nights I have been immersing myself with all the archived threads on the pertronix setup for the 308. Couple things I noticed. First thing is that nobody has really been able to find a plug in and play system as of yet for twin dizzy US cars. Second is that most people decide to run the systems through just one of the distributors. Which is understandable since you would no longer have to worry about keeping both dizzys setup correctly.

Today I came across a setup that appears to be bolt up job for both dizzys through classicgarage.com based out of NY.

Not sure if this is something new or not, again everything I found in the archives made it seem like a twin dizzy Pertronix setup did not exist. I did not have a chance to contact them yet. I was curious as to whether this might actually be something new or, if not, if anybody has had any experience with this setup and wish to comment on there experience with it; any issues with installation, the tach, needed missing parts, ect.

The drop in set up looks good. I had mine done by a guy named Don King in Ca. He did the set up in one dizzy and I only use the other dissy to distribute the spark. The tach still works off of one of the coils. Both coils are in use which I am using Bosch Blue coils with the built in resistor. I had installed mine back in 2001 and set the timing at 7*btdc have NEVER touched it. Starts and runs great. If this kit would have been available then I would most likely have purchased it . Good luck.

In this old thread is my GT4 that a previous owner did a slick set up with a dual dizzy converted to a single dizzy using Mallory ignition. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=75853 He machined a plate to accept the Ford cap and the unilite ignition. I sold the car a few years back, but it fired up like a modern day car. The tune parts were about $30 for a cap and rotor and replacement Unilite was @$150.

Anybody still running points in a cold area where you need to pump the gas or use the choke & often foul a plug should go for this. I put 2 Crane Fireballs in 1 dizzy & what a difference, no more fouled plugs & limping home.
Enzo would say "yes" to 40k volts instead of weak 15k spark to plugs.

I bugged an engineer at Pertronix about their MR181 kit for literally months hashing out the details in using the kit in a US car. I would like to think I had something to do in making the MR182 happening due to all the info I provided about the Marelli 127G and 159 distributors and their mounting holes. This is a great upgrade, but personally I preferred Crane's XR700 system. The Pertronix is great, but make sure you do NOT leave your ignition key on without the engine running for too long because the Pertronix has a tendency to fry itself.

Second...had mine done 2-years ago and runs flawless.

For $550 you can't beat the price and it looks pretty stock.
