I am new to flight but know about control. As previously posted about flying the plane. I have allways felt when you control something you can tend to forget about what you are in control of. As this is a good thing. If you drive a manual transmission car or any vehicle you get to the point where you don't think about it, you just do it like an instinct. You don't think about your legs or feet when you walk. Move your self about the world, with out bumping into things.

So my question is about Flight Schools. I have started flight school to be a pilot as a career. Sterling Flight Training is where I'm attending. Has any one ever heard of this facility?

What are the possibility's of moving on to be a commercial pilot after receiving your certifications?

That's about the size of it...

Nope! Never heard of it.... But that means nothing..

    Where is it?
How long have they been in business?
Is it a small one owner shop, or a larger corporation?
Do they have a web site?
    How many Instructors?
Is there anyone in your town that has recommended them?
Can you get a list of previous students to speak to?

    See if it's this one...

That depends on just one thing......

    Your dedication to the profession.

Are you willing to work long hours,
Be away from home on a helter skelter schedule?
Work for little pay for a number of years without any assurance of promotion?
    No Health care...
    No family life...
    Live out of a suitcase..
Take jobs that no one else wants to do..
Spend thousands of dollars on licenses, and ratings..
Be forever learning..as new technology comes about..

Well then..... sure, you can become a commercial pilot ! !
You can be a banner tower, a flight Instructor, a freight dog, or have any number of other job titles.

If you want the "BIG Passenger Airline" Captain's job.....
go to college first, preferably an aviation college.
    get your degree.
and make sure you can withstand a thorough background check by the FBI.

It all depends on what you are willing to sacrifice.
    Some will..
    Some can't..
    Some won't..

    Good luck.
And don't let it get you down. It's possible...

That's good and accurate advice, Charlie. I have a son who has flown everything you can think of and he still can't get a job with a big airline. BUT the ex-airforce types can AND those who are willing to fly with a feeder for 19k a year forever MIGHT make it. You have to pay some heavy dues to get a job with one of the big outfits. Forget it.

And why take something that is inherently fun and ruin it by making it a job?

Ever listen to crewmembers talking in the lounge or an airport restaurant? All they do is grumble and complain about their job related stresses, which seem to be greater than in many other professions.

'taint like the good ol' days, that's fer sure.
