You should not be allowed to win a championship without winning a race. Unless you get 2nd and 3rd all season.

Rosberg did win one race that year.

If Ferrari hadn't had their tragedies, we'd all be saying "Keke who?".

I know, but if memory serves me right, that win wasn't necessary for the crown. More for his ego.

My point is why does Bernie after all these years/decades have an issue with somebody possibly winning the title without winning a race? It was like that all along and unless they make it outright a requirement one could probably mathematically always win the crown without a victory.

But Bernie having lost it is also no news either.

I think the points difference between 1st and 2nd is too much. It should go back to 9 points for a win not 10. Plus maybe a point for pole and fastest lap.

someone who finishes continiously in the top 5 is more deserving of a championship than someone who has a few firsts and a bunch of DNFs

Well, in light of our culture of celebrating mediocrity, maybe we should give less point for first than for third.

That would make for some interesting last laps. :D

Sounds like Bernie has been in communication with the Tour de France officials.

Seriously, think about DGS' proposal. Imagine the mayhem that would cause: You still get all the regular points for 2nd, 4th, 5th etc. but 1st and 3rd are reversed. So people wouldn't try to not finish, but rather to finish third.

It would cause an absurdly comical end to the race. First they'd all have to race as usual because they want to make it to the top three. And the top three still would have to race somewhat as 4th, 5th etc are putting pressure on them. However now the first will try to become 3rd, without being passed by 4th. Insane! I can't even do it in my head.

What a diabolical little twist. Neat.

Or just make 1-8 worth the same points. We're all the same, remember, one big happy family, let's all go hug trees.

No, a diabolical little twist would be not telling anyone till the race is over that the points will be reversed................:) I think race winners will be committing suicide by jumping head first off the podium. Maybe that would work with reversed grids, don't tell anyone that the grid will be reversed untill after qualifying and pick 5 races a year to do it in. That outta fix thier little red wagons (no pun intended)

Obviously BernieCo has no friggin idea what to do with the points system. Maybe he should go in another direction, and instead of using points he can award LETTERS at each race. Race finishers are allowed to choose letters, Scrabble-style, based upon their finish at each race. At the end of the season the driver who can spell out the best homage to Bernie wins it all!

Give points for qualifying and then reverse the grid.

In qualy let 1st-5th get 5,4,3,2,1 points. Then make them go to the back of the grid. That'll give good racing (and a good exercise in game theory).

This means that a few other racing series have to change their point systems. I know the WRC changed their point system to the F1 system. There were at least 2 other racing series that changed theirs but I cant remember which ones.

Sounds like he things Kimi should have a #1 on his car. The current system rewards consistancy and greatness

    And why would that be?

Just for the record: Alonso has as many victories as Kimi. Plus a bunch more 2nds and 3rds, which made him Champion.
