I'm a little disappointed that they chose to run in LM2 instead of LM1. In LM2 they can be dominant immediately. If they ran in LM1, they would have to compete with Audi, and it would be more difficult.

They won't compete with Audi. Porsche is partners Audi, therefore there Porsche won't compete with there partner, they will dominate each class together.

Porsche and Audi may be partners, but why shouldn't they race against each other? Ferrari and Maserati do...

Audi Completly Dominated LMP1. Porsche knows this and im sure doesnt want to ruin the success. Therefore Porsche will dominate LMP2 and GT2 with there 911's.

They used to be partners, especially in north America, where a dealership sold both Porsche and Audi. I believe that they still have some kind of realtionship, but can not really be called partners.

Ferdinand Piech heads Audi. He is a member of the Porsche family and used to head Porsche back in the early 1970s before the family stepped away from managing the company directly. Porsche and Audi have shared many development projects and maintain very close business ties.

You would not see them competing directly against each other. However, I would expect Audi to pull out of top level competition soon. They have nothing left to prove!

Audi will indeed be back at Le Mans and the ALMS next year.

The cat is all but out of the bag and has yet to be officially announced but Dr. Ulrich confirmed at Le Mans over the weekend that Audi will be back with a new car (already being called the R10) in 2006 which will likely be a diesel powered unit to compete against the already announced Peugeot (rebadged Judd) diesel in LMP-1.

This has been well known for several months now as all of the Audi factory drivers are still under contract.

I believe the point is correct, even though Porsche and Audi are seperate companies now (Audi being owned by the Volkswagen Group) it would be highly unlikely to see them racing head to head in the same category.
