New Prancing Ponies event during Monterey Car Week

Just covered in the local Carmel paper in a rather large article (only a portion here). Carmel has had a limit of (2) events during Car Week...Carmel Concours on the Ave and the Pebble Beach Tour...so this was quite controversial.

Prancing Ponies get OK for Car Week show

OVERRIDING A previous council “directive” limiting events in town during Concours Week to two, the city council on Tuesday night narrowly overruled the staff’s denial of a permit for a new car show set for Wednesday, Aug. 16, on Dolores between Ocean and Fifth avenues. Since the Prancing Ponies All- Woman Car Show would be small — with 40 cars — and could draw strong press coverage because all the entrants are female, a majority of the council decided to give it a chance.

In April, organizer Chanterria McGilbra — who led a rally of female Ferrari drivers from San Francisco to Santa Barbara last year — applied for permission to stage her Prancing Ponies show downtown. McGilbra said her group would cover all city fees and costs related to the event. Car owners would pay $200 apiece to enter, and merchandise would be available for purchase.

“It’s a smaller event, unique, toned down, and we’re only talking about a block-and-a-half,” as opposed to the Concours on the Avenue and Tour d’Elegance.
