FERRARI TECH, RMANI, this is for you.....

You both must be getting close. What's the status? Checkride date scheduled?

Date is set. Might have to reschedule as Van Nuys are resurfacing both runways on and of for the next couple of weeks (16R/34L has been shortened for the last month), but we are getting close...nerves setting in.
Last couple of lessons have been just practicing maneuvers to PTS standards, slow flight, lots of stalls etc etc.

All the solo work is done, still have to do an hour of simulated IFR and 5 night landings will do that in the next week or so.

Did my best cross wind one wheel landing on my last solo, landing 16 winds 110@10, to say I was happy is an understatement.

LOU, Hoping you wont have to get that check ride for our Catalina trip !

    Agree.

I vividly remember 3 flights in my life:
    - my first flight as a passenger in my Dad's Cessna 140-A at age 5.
    - my first solo flight (stayed in the pattern for 3 landings on a glass smooth CAVU day).
    - my PP checkride (I passed!) :)

Good luck to all on their checkrides.

I did have to reschedule. Van Nuys was stupid with the main runway totally closed, too much traffic going in all directions both on the ground and in the air, Jets landing 34, everyone else trying to land 16 all on the small runway. My instructor said he has had more near misses both on the ground (closed taxi ways) and in the air in the last 3 weeks than the last 10 years. Not good for testing :).
Also with the construction there has been no night operations allowed. I got all my simulated IFR done, should be doing the night landings this weekend, then I'm all set.
Last week, my instructor gave me 3 date options to choose from for test date, I told him any of them just get me booked and I will figure out my schedule to match. Watch this space as they say.

I had to reschedule after my last instructor retired and found out from current CFI that I need more remedial work to pass the checkride.

either private or instrument check ride at the numbers on my last landing after doing well everything else the check pilot started talking my head off asking me questions trying to distract me looking at things out the window etc. I politely told him I would talk about my life story after we landed. :D

Thanks this is good advice. I will defer to any off topic Q&A distractions until we land and finish the checkride. If the checkride guy drops a pencil I will ask him to leave it until we have landed and secured the plane.

Trying to reschedule the ride but I guess everyone is pretty busy, hope to have it done in the next few weeks. My last few lessons have been nothing but PTS standard practice.

My instructors have been telling me stories of the examiner and how he really tries to push the student to the breaking point to test his "composure under pressure", even to the point of shouting at slapping one student (which he then passed) to try to rattle him....I did advise my school to tell the examiner not to try that with me because I will just park the plane and wait for him in the parking lot...I thought they were messing with me but I spoke to the student and it was for real. Not sure where this guy gets off, but my instructor thinks he's just burnt out.

Watch this space as they say LOL

Use a different examiner. No need to put up with that. While the checkride can be stressful, just fly like you always do. If an approach doesn't look right, go around. They can't fault you for that. And always keep an eye out for traffic.

I'd say good luck, but luck shouldn't play a part in it.....

the chief pilot at my school would beat me up so bad and over prepare me so the DE couldn't do much of anything surprising. HATED the chief pilot check rides, but when he said you were ready, you were READY!

For me, I had to do more prep work and the good news is that my CFI is sharp and keeps me thinking. I've had the most trouble believe it or not with steep turns.

Was supposed to do the check ride tomorrow morning (8-25) DPE called ( with less than 20hrs to go) to ask if we could do it at lunch time instead of at 7-30am. I had aircraft reserved for me until 12 and then its booked solid until past 7-30pm with other student lessons, then of all things it goes for its annual on Monday, will be down for at least 2 weeks.
I guess the DPE cant rearrange his social life to get up that early. I'm kind of pissed as this is the 3rd time it has been rescheduled.
I will ask about taking test in steam gauge plane but having spend 95% of my time with the G1000, I really want to nail it in that aircraft.
I keep flying in the mean time, just to keep my hand in, at this rate I will be able o do my commercial on the same day as I will have 1500 hrs. :)
I made my first appointment when I had about 60 hours, as of yesterday I'm just over 80...
Now just hoping to get it done ASAP...my brain is full and I cant read the FAR/AIM anymore LOL

More touch n goes today. Felt great to get back in the seat. Decent speed crosswinds provided some added challenge but most landings were really smooth. Hoping to do my second solo in a couple days and then back to cross country. Hopefully first solo cross country will be next week.

Good luck. Its a blast, prepare, prepare and prepare again. Don't leave anything till the last minute and you will actually have time to enjoy the experience a little. I know I did.

I'm trying to confirm my "new" date, cant wait to get it done, I'm tired of paying instructors to take rides with me ;)
