I am the new owner of a 2001 360 F1 spider. I purchased it with ZERO records or books, however I am fairly experienced in these cars and it was a great buy. The color is a one of one (I suspect) Blue Pozzi over white leather with blue alcantara inserts. All challenge grills (front/rear), carbon racing seats (in white/blue alcantara) and all the silver interior pieces were finished in blue pozzi. They installed a massive JL audio system with sunken amps in the boot with plexiglass windows and led backlighting to showcase the inner workings of the amps. JL subs behind the seats surrounded by white leather and custom door sills to encase the large cables. All speakers were updated and a bluetooth head unit added. The car has mint Avus racing parallel spoke 3-piece wheels in 19X8 in the front and 20X11 in the rear.

The car is a euro spec car with perfect paint and interior. Not a scratch or even a hairline. The car was a once in a lifetime spec so I had to get it. Whatever it needs, I'll replace.

I checked the timing belts and they appear brand new with brand new tensioners and serpentines. The AC compressor is new also. The clutch is a Kevlar unit with only 10% wear. All fluids were new and the tires were BRAND NEW, but dated 2013-2014, meaning the car sat for about 10 years prior to my purchasing it.

I got the car for an amazing price thinking that it wouldn't make the 2 hour trip home but I've been daily driving it for 3 months now and I've racked up about 3K miles. So far, I've flushed and replaced all the fluids, F1, gearbox, engine oil, filter, coolant and replaced coolant hoses, F1 relay, taillight harnesses and some other things with more coming.

I'd really like anyone's help if they know anything about the car. It spent time in Texas and California, from where it was originally imported and spent a year in customs. It's not your average Ferrari so hopefully someone has to recognize it. I suspect there is an interesting story behind this car.

If I was a betting man, I'd say that interior is not from the factory. Especially considering the other modifications to it. Is that the reason you believe it to a be a one of one or is there something else?

This ad calls it out as a "custom" interior not original: https://www.2040-cars.com/Ferrari/360/2001-ferrari-360-spider-convertible-2-door-3-6l-934227/

You can always get the myferrari app and link the VIN to your profile. It will then show you the original sales spec.

    This is great.

Ok, there have been mods made since that ad. The steering wheel does not have the suede cheap cover. It is blue original. Also there are no subs in the photos. The interior color though I believe are original only because the entire rear (behind seats, where you remove to access door) is the same matching materials/colors. Also, my air intake boxes are refinished in blue pozzi.

Definitely the same car though. The title shows exempt as it read only 17K when I got it. I ran a SD scan on the TCU (which I verified as a Eurospec 2001 first gen) and it totals 47K miles when all gear travels are added up.

Also, someone replaced the entire dash with a brand new one after those photos were taken. Zero shrinkage and new texture is very obvious. No sticky issues as this was also already addressed. Finally, my calipers are OEM yellow with Ferrari logos. They don't appear resprayed, unless they completely disassembled them and used the proper paint/stencils.

I also notice the photos show a black face tach. Mine is yellow.

Does the paint color match the label under the frunk hood? Mic'd to confirm thickness is factory-like? Original PPF on the lower rear side ducts?

I would say maybe call that original dealer, but since they bought it from a bank, there's likely no additional data they have. Have you done a carfax on it? I was able to locate a previous owner on an older jeep I had because the shop that worked on it was on the carfax and they were able to give me the service history.

As for the interior panels, all of those items are easily recovered and the TCU could have been reprogrammed or possibly replaced since it seems other electronics were replaced as well. Because it seems so much as been changed on that car over the years, I wouldn't put too much stock on it being a unique factory build. That doesn't mean it should be worth any less to you though if what has been done is to your liking. I would be extra careful about what could have been neglected though and make sure you get a really good PPI done if you're not familiar with what to look for. Repo'd vehicles often suffer from lack of regular maintenance.

Could be the calipers were from another vehicle that had yellow for sure. Resprays can look pretty good though, especially if the logo is sprayed through a stencil instead of a decal. Small mistakes that are easy to nail down resprays are if the F in Ferrari is not at the top of the caliper. Lots of people have their caliper color changed, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Honestly I don't believe in PPIs, especially for the price I paid. I've had PPIs overlook critical things and I've had PPIs mis-diagnose simple things as major. I've completely disassembled and reassembled many Ferrari and Maseratis in the past, including the F1 systems so I'm a fairly good judge. Don't get me wrong, for the average buyer a PPI is mandatory, but I've done personal PPIs on rare exotics (I've owned quite a few) for buyers in the past and I am the most discriminating you'll ever meet.

The Ferrari dealer showed it was purchased at the factory in Italy by a guy named Hans then shipped over grey market in 2001. Unfortunately Modis won't show details on factory deliveries, only dealer sold vehicles.

All the car's glass is original and etched except for the driver's window. Coincidentally, the hinges on that door have snapped posts ( I noticed when aligning the door). This may indicate an accident but there is no evidence of repaint of repair with the panels removed, so it would have had to be above the sill, if it happened, and the carfax shows no accidents (although I don't trust that).

Anyway, I'm a huge fan of the F1 gearbox and I love the fact that the recent years of gated-manual obsessions on the internet have driven values down on the F1 cars. I'm the former owner of an F1 Quattroporte which I drove daily for over 130K miles and my Aston Martin which I just sold on BaT with 135K miles. I plan on driving this car so we'll see how it works out!

Sounds like you're covered on service then.

Hmm, sounds like an interesting history. I wonder why they would ship over a grey market car while you could buy one here? Maybe the guy moved to the states shortly after he bought it? Have you tried any of the European VIN search sites? You'd figure it would show up with yearly registration at the least in one of the sites here like carfax. Sounds like there's a story to be had either way.

Haha agreed. Like why would someone dump all this money into a car just to liquidate it? Just doesn't make sense. I get the repo, but since then full service was performed and additional customizations were made. I paid less than the $59K asking price btw. Someone took a hit more than once on this car. Hopefully a shop owner, former owner, or a federal cop (lol) will see this post and say "Hey, I now that car!"

The MyFerrari app does give you good info. It’s pretty limited on older cars, but it does have the basics.

Another thing you could do is take it to a Ferrari dealer and pay for a basic service like an oil change and ask them for the info from modis. There will be info about recalls and other stuff in there, even on euros.

I have a euro car and was able to track down mileage from previous services in Europe as well as recalls. I have a pretty complete picture now with all the mileage from new.

Euro cars also don’t have the build date stamped anywhere that I could find. Yours is probably a late 01 build based on the vin and production numbers back then.

I took it straight to my friends at the dealer when I purchased it. Modis won't give info on Euro cars, or at least not this one. It shows basic things and the original purchaser and from the country of origin but that's about it. If the car spent time in Europe then it would be logged in Modis but this car was immediately exported and imported in California and none of the records are available in US on the B vin cars from what I was told, or at least if it is available, it's spotty. I know the original purchaser first name was Hans but don't recall the last name. That info came from Modis.

Yes, mine was built in late 2001. The car has approximately 50K miles now according to the TCU. I am confident that the TCU is original due to it being a euro TCU from 2001. US models had a different TCU update sequence and it is date stamped as all of them are.

I am curious more about the vehicle's life in the past 10 years. A substantial amount of money was spent on the car. For example, it appears that the entire car was disassembled and resprayed. I've judged a few car shows and an exhibitor at Barrett Jackson so I'm fairly good at recognizing good paint work. This car is amazing. I'd estimate the paint job of this caliber to be around $25K or much more. I see no evidence of an accident but someone updated the car with new dash board, audio system, belt service, brake calipers and tires just prior to my driving it, although the date stamp on the tires is 10 years old. Seems they were 90% done with a full resto and just walked away and let it sit for years.

Given the time in Texas, the aftermarket stereo, and the interior color scheme I will place a bet on a Dallas Cowboy or a dedicated fan having owned it.

Ferrari Market Letter tries to keep records on all Ferraris. It surprised me how much info they had on my 360. You might check with them. They are a great resource in general. I would really encourage everyone on FerrariChat to subscribe.

More than one person told me this was Missy Elliott's old 360. She apparently had a few over the years, all 360s. A quick google search showed her MTV Cribs episode of her cars, and sure enough there was a Blue Pozzi spider with challenge grills and chrome Avus wheels. But the wheels were different style, calipers were red and interior was tan. Possible that mods were made later but who knows.

I sent a request into the MyFerrari app with my VIN for access.

I've been replacing various parts on the car and will continue (just got a few boxes full of parts yesterday also), so keep an eye on my threads to see what's going on with the car if you're interested.

Contact Jim or Cathy at Ferrari Market Letter. Both their emails and telephone numbers are clearly listed on their webpage. I would suggest subscribing, as a courtesy if nothing else. But you can still reach out to them and see what information they may have. They would also probably like current information on your Ferrari, with VIN, which they will add to their database.
