Many who monitor this forum know what a fan I am of my R1. The bike is a 2003 model. I've been a fan of the 2004 design since it came out. The bike has a MUCH nicer seating body position for street riding than the 2003 which is more "race positioned". I love the new frame and peg positions on the 2004 model too. I also love the factoru undertail exhaust. The new model makes about 180hp and weighs 375lbs!
I couldn't stand it. I caved. Here's the pic of the one I just committed to:

New R1 is a great choice. Best fit and finish of the Japanese liter bikes, tons of power, awesome brakes, etc etc. What I love the most is that when I sat on one it wasn't uncomfortable like the other 1000's, at least to me anyway. If I had the means to get one right now, it would be blue/white.

Good choice new R1 is more user friendly than previous models. I work for a Yamaha Dealership in the UK so get to ride these kind of bikes everyday. New colours for 2005 just arrive in our showroom v.nice. Doesn't actually make 180bhp though more like 145-150. but bloody fast anyway. Not quite as quick as a Triumph rocket 3 up to about 100. Also we are a Triumph dealership as well. But who wants a big cruiser I am Sportsbike fan. Hope Neil Hodgson does well in AMA this year Had a coffee with him not long ago. Suomy dealers as well.

The 2004 R1 was a great street bike. Too bad Suzuki used it as a benchmark when making the new GSXR1000. Faster, better handling, lighter, and maybe even a little less money. Last years race bikes HP now comes standard with the new Suzuki. Yep, didn't like being number 2. I found out the hard way that the racebike was slower than a production 2005 1000. Surpised the h out of me.

I have not heard from him in awhile. Did you know that he got hit while riding his bike ? He is o.k. I think his bike is being repaired. It has been awhile since I rode with him.

I DID crash the local Ferrari fun run with my bike. It was funnnn riding with the road turning on its side.
