I put this over in the Northwest section, but after a week or so I figured that people outside of WA and OR would be interested...

There is a plan underway to build a new facility outside of Shelton, WA. It will be much like Thunderhill (in fact, a Thunderhill director helped on the track design and spoke at the local public hearing) --meaning it will have tons of runoff room perfect for track days and instruction. Main force behind it is a great person, club racer, and fellow F-car guy.

It's not designed to replace Pacific Raceways (which has the stands for big spectator events), but another option designed by car people for exploring the limits of their cars and motorcycles in track day, driving school and competition formats. It will also give kids an opportunity to test their vehicles (road course and drag strip) in a safe enviornment.

Support site just went live at http://www.raceinmason.com

There's a section to add your support as comments in the Who Supports Racing. http://raceinmason.wordpress.com/about/
Also the site asks people to send an email to the Mason County Commissioners (listed on the what you can do to help page at http://www.raceinmason.com/help.html) to let them know if you're the type of person who races and how much annually you might spend in their county. One of the Commissioners and some of the people at the County planning office are trying to throw up roadblocks, so the more support, the easier it will be for the people doing this to complete it.

If you know any clubs that race, this would be the time to get them to lend their support. If you have any desire to race at a track like this, I urge you to at least put your name on the who supports the track page. An email to the commissioners would also be great, because in their world "money talks" -- they're interested in getting money flowing to the county.

By the way, it is just two miles from Sanderson Field airport, so those from out of the area could "fly in" with their personal planes and keep a car there at the facility to track.

(Just as a note -- while I do know the guy behind it, I don't have any $$ in this...I just really want to see this happen for the benefit of both the area and car enthusiasts.)
