ok i read the threads in the archives. the radar busters site was really great. ( www.radarbusters.com ) however they dont seem to like Rock Mountain Radar products at all. Rocky Mountain has this new super duper detector - scrambler thingy out. i have already ordered it and now i am wondering if i made a BIG mistake. the new one is a RMR-C-450. i could care less about the jammer scrambler claims. this thing is SUPPOSED to be better than a V1 and the BEL RX65, as far as "detection" goes. i was back and forth between the Bel and the V1. super techy guys i know have been wetting themselves over this new RMR C450. i will have a trial period in which i can return the darn thing, but i would REALLY like any opinions on this. this damn red Ferrari gets 10,000 times more attention than the brown 308 (marrone) did. the link for the RMRC450 INFO is www.radar-detector-superstore.com no affiliation. i am just a aircraft technician!

any help would be MUCH appriciated! thanks!

I would only choose between the V1 and the Escort 8500 X50, which has bested the V1 in a lot of tests. I have the normal 8500 and it has never let me down.

You can order all three as all three have a return policy and then keep the one you like best. The X50 would be my choice. The only thing that is better about the V1 is the arrows. However, I really don't know how useful they are. I mean, once the detector goes off, you are going to slowdown regardless of where it is coming from.

If it's any concern, the V1 works great on scoots with a Stem-Stand and the amplifier that Valentine sells.

You'll need small speakers in your helmet.

Plugging in (when you get on the bike) makes you feel like a Goldwing nerd, but it sure can keep you out of trouble!

Now... when you get pulled over on your bike and the officer spots your detector, how easy is it to get out of a ticket?

Btw- the triangles in your profile are angled differently

Doesn't matter. I can't ever get out of a ticket any more anyway. Unless the officer is local, as I take care of all the local guys, healthwise, they tend to give me a nod and a wink.

    BTW, they are not triangles.

REALLY ! cool pic! :) the RMR arrived today. ill have to read the manual to see how to turn the voice crap off. i am going to try it for a week or so. the arrows on the V1 are not a big deal to me, sensitivity and accuracy is though! i agree the belrx65 , bel 985 and the Escort seem to be on the top of the heap. i posted this to see if anyone knows for sure of not that the Rocky Mountain stuff is crap or works. time will tell.

ok the RMR SUCKED i sent it back. even when you turn off the voice feature, the damn thing still goes through the start up test in voice mode. i hated it. the folks were very nice on the phone about my returning it, i may get the Escort or BEL whatever from them since they were so cool on the phone. i specifically asked if the voice could be turned off, and they were wrong. it sounded like a damn commercial EVERY TIME YOU STARTED THE CAR UP. i put it in my truck, as i have to hard wire it into the Ferrari and i did not want to cut anything yet and give them a chance to not take it back. ill post what i get. Valentine1 does not detect POP radar and thats what most of the police units in all the little towns around here have.

Pick up the X50 michael. You cannot go wrong. I am still not sure if their 3 year upgrade deal is worth it though. I never upgraded it once. Waste of money.

You'll have to drive that baby into southbridge one day..

Doesn't MPH put a disclaimer in their operating manual saying that POP mode should not be used to collect evidence to base speeding tickets on. I have read something saying that the POP radar is not accurate. If anyone has info on this please pass it along. I would like to get the Radar unit operating manuals if that disclaimer is in there. It seems like it would raise enough doubt to beat a ticket if the radar was used in that way.

A while back I saw a helmet with a wireless receiver and a LED in it. It gets a signal from a transmitter hooked up to the V1.

I would go with the V1. The only real bad thing is the price. I haven't seen a V1 on a motorcycle before.

I made a hasty purchase off of ebay when purchasing the Escort and got the old 8500 vs the new X50. I'm not sure that there really is a difference other than graphics and blue lights. Does anyone know for sure? The 8500 seems to work fine.

Yeah, I considered that, but pricey and new, who knows how durable. A set of helmet speakers are $15, turned up loud can be heard with earplugs in.

I called escort and they have a special on now to get a free gift if you order from them. So, you could get a hardwire kit (29.99 value) for the $299.99 plus shipping.

I think I might go that route. I really liked how Ralphs 360CS had the 8500 hardwired.

Oh, I saw an old ferrari in southbridge yesterday. No idea what it was.

I haven't ridden a bike for any length of time, but wouldn't earplugs decrease your situational awareness just a little? Or are you going so fast nothing could possibly sneak up on you? :)
