Does Ford know that MB stole the Focus' wheel arches? My, what a car to emulate. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I took delivery of my S430V two weeks ago. I got a great discount off of MSRP because of the new body style coming next year. However, I think the 07 looks terrible. I'm not a fan of the CLS either. I looked at it seriously but it looked too much like a Ford to me. Oh well, I'll take the 06 for the time being and see what I like next. So far, about 750 miles and no electrical issues.
CLS is Better than the new S but still not up to par in my mind. The CLS a friend had and got rid of it because it felt too compacted. I hate the new S-classes, I'd even be happier if they kept this body style now for 10 more years. I used to say I'm a Mercedes guy, but now I dont know....
Don't like the new MB Sorento, nor do I like the new S-Class. Those vulgar wheel arches ... come on, now! However, the CLS ... it's soooooo hot. Driving next to a CLS is like following Heidi Klum on a nude beach. Then she turns around and hands you some sun lotion. That's a CLS to me. You could say I like it.
Nope, that's the current (or soon to be out?) euro version of the Focus.... I believe the Volvo S40 and Mazda 3 borrows this platform from Ford while US consumers get stuck with the original version of the Focus in the US due to cost reasons... Also on point, I recall the original Focus had prominent wheel arches as well....
It strikes me that the attempt to make the body more aggressive with the protruded wheel arches literally falls short; those arches are disproportionate to the size of the car they are hung on; the black, non-body color B pillar not only makes the cabin look less sleek, but the combination of swoopy roof line, with those pillars, is almost a contradiction. The front hood is bland, but little different than MB sedans for the past couple decades, since they went away from the squared-up grill/'radiator' frame. The front bumper is simple, but does nothing for the car visually. The butt is higher than the front, ala the notorious 7. Another car designed by committee, perhaps in search of a soul. I haven't liked the big MB sedan style since the slab-sided cars from the early 90's. But for the vast majority of buyers, this is simply another hi-end appliance. For that reason, I don't think it will put off potential buyers. Indeed, even the company's really hi-end limo-car, the M-bach, which- at least to me, is ugly in the extreme, makes the new Roller look even more classy than it is. (I find the Roller to be a caricature of itself, but given the level of insane hype with everything these days, it's just part of the terrain that comes with a car of this stature, which also lost its soul, at least for a long while). Let's just hope the folks at MB have sorted out their QC issues, since that, more than style, will be the downfall of this car.
Whart, I repectfully disagree regarding the Maybach 62. I like it and the Roller. I'm not sure what the point of the 57 is. Also, I'm not sure what MB was thinking when they styled the new S, but I'm thinking they wanted more room in the rear seating. I like some shots and dislike others.... so I guess I'm just going to have to wait and get my hands on one. Image Unavailable, Please Login
