Audi already has the A8 W12 which is plenty fast and has the nicest interior I've ever sat in. Suede headliner just like in private jets...
this might be doody's next car. BabelFish translation: doody. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
We have one, you're correct. Great car, 450 silent bhp. No one knows what it is. Lots of torque, still getting used to AWD again. 20's, solar SR, laser cruise, 6 DVD changer + double screens, great interior, huge trunk. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I drove one a few weeks ago and was very impressed. on top of the great interior, it's got tons of torque and is a great driving car. I just would never want to drive a car that big. Give me an RS6, please.
Wow, I had no idea they were getting 450bhp out of the w12 now. Why on earth use the V10 in the S8? Seems like a waste, no?
Has Audi finally "arrived" to compete with BMW and MB in the higher-end range? Looks like with this, they have a franchise player to do that.
Yeah......maybe for Jimmy too.......of course my first thought is OK, so how hard will it be to put a REAL Gallardo V10 in there.....(yes, OK, maybe really hard......) I like my wifes new S4 Avant quality so much, this S8 is looking promising. James
Same here and a S8 would be that much sweeter. I'm hoping that it's different enough in driving style to make up for having the same HP as the W12. I LOVE this car and would own one for sure if I could.
The S8 will weigh nearly 450 lbs. less than the W12 according to Autoblog.com. I would have liked to have seen a DSG transmission on the S8 though. The said the following: Why then would you opt for the S8? For all the S-spec bits and pieces, of course, which include a sportier version of Audi’s adaptive air suspension, 20-inch wheels, larger discs and optional ceramic rotors, not to mention the V10 weighs nearly 450 lbs. less than the W12. Apparently the v10 is very light, so there is an advantage over the 12, especially since they hang those motors way out front.
After reading the autoblog commentary, I still don't get it. W12 is faster and more powerful. These are BIG cars, so handling isn't going to be on the forefront for either one. oh, well, to each his own. I'll take a W12, please.
i'd bet the S8 will be priced similarly to the A8 12 - maybe even less. remember, the MB S600 is about 10% pricier than the AMG S55, fwiw. the S8 will be targeted to people who want more sporty performance (yeah, fair enough, as sporty as a two ton sedan can get, but you know what i mean) and the A8 12 will be targeted as an ultra-luxe exercise. just like the S55 and the S600 don't really do battle in buyer's minds. my opinion, worth no more than you paid for it. if i were buying an A8 i'd buy a regular 8 cylinder, not the 12. but i'd take an S8 over either. doody.
Yeah, I know. I've never understood the need for the SL600/55, either. Seems they're too close to each other. I'd probably take the 600 over the 55, too (and I'm sure others would pick the 55). Then again, I'd take the 65 over both.
this article http://www.audiworld.com/news/05/s8/ states that the pricing will be EUR 97,600 which translates to USD 117,350. this is about USD 1,500 less than the A8 W12; it's about USD 2,500 more than the the S55. given the problems they had moving the last half or so of the "limited production" RS6s in the US, i wonder if they can succeed with the S8 at that high a price point. should be interesting! mid-2006 deliveries in Euro-land. doody.
