I just finished replacing the hoses, pressure checked the evaporator and condenser while out (both excellent). Put in all new hoses including the two long runs. All new green O rings. Pulled a vacuum down to 30+" (on my gauge it was 2 needles past 30") and held over night. Charged the system with just under 2 cans. Started it up and the compressor did not turn when the clutch engaged. Belt squealed and I shut it down immediately. I recovered the freon and removed the compressor. Bench tested it and it turned by hand fine with clutch engaged. Removed and then refilled the oil. With the freon removed and hoses detached from the compressor, I blew compressed air through the system (high to low) and there is no blockage. Put the compressor back on and got the belt tensioned back to 50 lbs (per spec - just like I did initially). With NO FREON in the system but the hoses attached (so I would not spray oil everywhere) the compressor will still not turn over with the clutch engaged.
While on the bench I turned it the correct way (counter clockwise when facing the pulley) and oil was popping out the high side. That tells me the compressor is not "reversed".
VERY FRUSTRATED as I was trying to get this working for my drive up to Monterey Wednesday
What am I doing wrong or missing???

When you bench tested it did you put 12V on the clutch and turn it? Is the clutch turning on in the car? What is the pressure in the system with the engine NOT running. Does the compressor turn over in the car by hand without the belt ? Is there any mechanical mounting issues that interfere with the clutch and pulley.

Found the problem. The face of the clutch is slightly touching the engine case. Mounting the compressor and bracket per the kit instructions did this. I'll have to take it all out now and do some cutting and grinding of their adapter plate. It is a poor design as others here have said. Requires way too much field modification work to install and be called a "kit".
