In two weeks, the Dino's going in for a major service. Tune-up, valve adjustment, fix a couple of oil leaks, finally deal with the sticky clutch cable, etc.

I have been noticing that the car feels very skittish when going over road irregularities with any kind of side loading on the tires. So, I decided to bite the bullet and order a new set of Konis from T. Rutlands. The old ones, though they have only 29,000 miles, are 33 years old, after all. I've had girlfriends younger than that (though some of them were a little skittish, as well...)

Anyway, by the end of this month, everything should be ship shape. There's a big FCA shindig in Asheville, NC in May. That's about 4-5 hours from here, so I might just do it. Lots of terrific roads in the mountains up there...

I'll leave a full report when the car comes back from the shop toward the end of this month.

DON'T FORGET TO REPLACE THE BUSHINGS WHILE YOU'RE THERE.

IF you're gonna take the car that far apart, and the bushings are original too, they need to be replaced.

The combined effect will be startle you.

    Been there - done that.

    Dave:

Do you mean the shock absorber bushings (which I did order), or all of the suspension bushings? It sounds like you're saying to do them all while it's apart. Makes sense.

    Do 'em all.

33 year old rubber is bound to be in awful condition. 'course you have to cut your way in to the suspension bushings, they're tack welded to stay in place.

Again, in my book, worth it. Bouth complete sets from superformance. My mechanic was a little nervous they'd be noisy, but they are silent.

Jacques at www.maseratisource.com sold me a full set of suspension bushings (same as Rutlands) for a 40+% cost savings.

Thanks for the tip, Synchro. I've decided to have all the bushings replaced.

I just ordered a full F&R set of control arm bushings from Jacques. You're right about the savings! I also ordered ball joints. Even though the joints on the car might be okay at 29K miles, I decided to go ahead and replace them as long as the suspension is dismantled.
