Hey all, I split my tach open again yesterday and tried to recalibrate it with the internal pot . .. this was originally the twin dizzy tach which is basically a 4 cyl tach and the pot would not adjust enough for it to calibrate to a standard 8 cyl signal . .. I got it down to where she reads almost 9.5k @ 7.5k which is kinda fun to watch but I want real numbers. I can send the tach to be recalibrated at various places but since my odomoter is also broken and the lighting on them isn't so good I'm thinking about replacing those two instruments . . then the others later probably. Anyone dealt with the speed sensor signal on an aftermarket speedo? Also any pics or suggestions on brands sytles? The factory gauges (only these two) are recessed unlike all the aftermarket products I've browsed . .. thinking this is 'cause of glare from the angled windshield? . . .comments? . . should I think about recessing them? The standard product diameter is smaller than the factory hole so I'll have to machine an adapter ring which I could recess . . . more work though 'cause the factory units seem to be at a bit of an angle .. . the recess is angled if that makes sense .. thoughts? Thanks, Sean
I had been told buy the guys at Autometer that their speedo unit will work with most senders and they mentioned it will work with the Ferrari unit. Just give them a call and they will verify. Good luck and let us know what you use and how you made out.
excellent . .. thanks one of the brands I'm looking at in old faithful Summit catalog ... next to the bed next to the .. oh never mind. Thanks again
Hi Keep in miond that there are two styles of senders in 308's. The early one puts out 4 pulses per rev, the newer one puts out 8. Whatever speedo you replace it with needs to deal with which sender you have. The senders are not interchangeable. Old style has a speedo cable type square pin in the bottom. (Most modern speedos put out 32 pulses per rev!) Gerrit
I mentioned it because when my sender went I spent an inordinate amount of time searching in vain for a lower cost alternative to the original sender. I found almost nothing that would work for 4 pulse/rev as a sender except marine variations of the original. In the end I coughed up the $$$. A Google search now shows more options including senders and speedo heads.
