Hi all, Does anyone know what the gap is for new 1st, 2nd, 3rd synchro rings? I see the limit is 0.4mm. My 1st and 3rd are just 0.70 and my 2nd is 0.55mm. The car has 58k km (36k miles) and I don't think it has been apart before. If the new gap is about .70mm then my 2nd should get at least another 60k kms (much more since I will drill the blind hole and use better gear oil.) Thanks, Derek
ps if anyone is changing shifter rod seals I have some extra quad seals.

The top edge of the ring is about flush with the top edge of the clutch body of the gear when new. The surface of the clutch body often wears as bad or worse than the syncro.

Not long after production started the selector shaft had a groove ground in it making drilling the blind hole totally unnecessary. The internet has people drilling holes for no reason.

Thanks Brian, I'm hoping someone has a new set they can measure the gap of as I'd prefer not to take all the gears out if I don't have to.

I checked my 1st/reverse shaft and it has a spiral ground groove in the end near 1st gear that goes into the plugged boss but the other end has no slot so I will drill the vent hole.

Anyone out there have the new syncro ring clearance? Who has the cheapest ZF synchros? Are they the same as any other cars?

There are some out there that are different material made for other applications but dimensionally correct. I have a contact at ZF. They no longer make them, have no plans to make more and wanted an impractically large minimum order to change their minds. I have the last seven they had. They are for 1st, 2nd + 3rd only.
