There are videos circulating about BMW M5s and M6s thrashing Ferraris big time... my personal experience against an M5 V10 is that it's hellishly fast but not SO fast... at least I could still keep up with it (although no way I could overtake it, at least until 250 Km/h :) ).

The fact is - are our beautiful V12 Ferraris becoming obsolete with all these cheap, mass-produced German 500 BHP Überwagen beginning to infest our roads? Should I put a Tubi, a BMC air filter and tune up the engine to 530 BHP to keep up with these monsters? :)

My only consolation is that our cars are still better around corners, but when BMW releases a 500 HP M3 (which can't be that far...) we'll have lost this advantage too.

    Andrea,

Who cares about a faster BMW? The problem with all these cars is that it still is not a Ferrari! There is nothing passionate about these cars. Just plain German (but excellent) engineering. When I compare it to women (which I usually do) a BMW is like a Nun.

I think you should put a Tubi and a BMC filter anyway , just in case :D .

Seriously , it was bound to happen . The 550 is almost 10 years old . M5 back then had 340 hp. Even if you get trashed by one , will you care ? As much as i love the new m6 , its just a BMW ..

The best consolation is the knowledge that in 5 years' time the market will be swamped with used M5s at 20'000 Euros... that will NEVER happen with a Ferrari.

Ferrari will always have the advantage on style, design, passion, heritage, aso... :)

Like has been said here before, who cares about a faster BMW fe :) Although they're great cars they still lack lot's of things that make it that extra special!

If I had to choose between a BMW that can beat a Ferrari or a Ferrari that gets beated by a BMW... I would choose the Ferrari EVERY time... :)

Besides, lot's of older Ferrari's aren't that much faster or even slower than some modern family cars... and still they keep their sex-appeal :)

    Thanks Ton :)

Actually if you could get 550s for 20.000 Euros I'd get one for me, one for Rachel, one for my sister, one for my mum, my dad and even one for my 89-yr old grandad! They're such great cars I'd always prefer the 100 times over an M5.

Besides, as recent track tests have proven (Sport Auto magazine, Germany) the M5/M6 are not any faster than Maranellos when it comes to racetracks or curves. And that's where we'll mostly drive next summer! :D
