I spent many years in the SoCal section. Now that I live in the triangle, I thought I'd say hello over here. Hope to meet some of you at a Cars & Coffee or other event.

Welcome Jason! Be good to have some real talent around here. Too bad I moved to the NC Mountains full time a couple years ago.

Welcome Jason. There's plenty of Ferrari's and Ferrari activity around here. If you're not already an FCA member it would be good to join and participate in some great events.

Welcome to North Carolina. The first thing you should know is that there is no place called Carolina. North and South Carolina are as different as North Carolina and New York. South Carolina is the deep South. North Carolina, especially where you are located, is closer to Virginia and based on living in the Triangle, closer in culture to N. VA or Washington D.C.

Oh geez, that's gonna start a debate.

NC and SC (and most of the rest of the south) are culturally very similar when you get 20 miles outside of the city centers in either state.

Raleigh has lost its southern accent. Go 20 miles out and you could be anywhere in the south. Same story in parts of SC with the same heavy influx of people from elsewhere.

I'm from eastern NC and I challenge you to find a place deeper south than that in Alabama or Mississippi. It's all pretty similar except the population centers.

You won't find anything controversial from me. Eastern NC is as Deep South as Mississippi, its the land of Jesse Helms. I grew up in Asheville, born in a hospital that no longer exists and moved away in 1986 to take up residence in Greensboro. There are parts of NC every bit as like all of SC. But most of us from NC are proud of the fact that we AREN'T Mississippi or Alabama. However, over the last 20 or so years, certain rural and poor areas want to be MORE like Alabama and Mississippi but the majority do not. These areas reject science, democracy and civil rights we all have, regardless of skin color, disability, national origin etc. They've always been that way.

Growing up, we were proud that NC was more progressive compared to the deep South, not so much like the rest of the US though. SC had a N. VA rebel flag flying on the state capital property for god's sake until just within the last few years. That is unthinkable in my lifetime in NC.

So true - my wife had never lived outside the DC area, so we targeted the triangle when we were ready to relocate, but she said it was a little too similar.

Funny thing, every time the in-laws visit, they complain about the confederate flags flying off highway 29 - trying to take a potshot at NC, but I have to remind them they saw those in southern Virginia and not in NC.

I would also agree w/ the statement about being 20+ miles outside of the city where the cultures are similar and not much has changed across the state in the last 20 years, although the number is probably 40 miles in raleigh and charlotte. I went to a minor league hockey game last year and honestly felt like I was transported back to 1996.
